Madden is an arcade game, period. The majority of sales are made from the non-sim player (Insert my brother and all of my friends here). Most gamers want to pop in the game, have fun, and move on. The sim players can not have fun if the game feels arcadey and cheesy, but we are in the minority.

If VC or 989 fail at their football titles, virtual football will no longer be a hobby of mine. I am sure my wife is rooting for EA
You are a 2K fan. There I said it.

I don't completely agree with you about 2K being LIGHT years ahead of Madden in realism. It has it's shortcomings as well. The DB's for one. I'm not gonna start a war here cuz it's already been fought before. I have 2K5 AND Madden. I play 'em both and each brings things to the table that the other one doesn't. If you're a real football fan then you love having both, I know I do. I'll just say that I agree it is sad that there is no 2K6 of ANY kind. We all lost on that one. But I'll just don't see this clear cut superiority in EITHER game that both games fanboys see.

Sorry Jistic, but in terms of realism it is LIGHT years ahead of madden. NOw I am not talking about fun factor, franchise or anything else. All I am saying is the player interaction level of detail and on field play 2k makes MAdden 06 look like a ps1 game I'm sorry it really does. Oh as far as the DBs go try my rosters or any other of the many in the rosters section that fixes the DB play. I know it sucks that we had to Tweak the game to death for it "play" right but now it really is amazing. Madden is FAR FAR away from being close to "real" football, 2k is not perfect but comparing it to madden in terms of realism not even close. Remember that old TV show where the family got stranded on a planet that was run by dinasours? Land of the lost, well that is your madden and Jurrasic park is your 2k

On the plus side, the blocking looks a lot more solid and hopfully you can use powerbacks more efficiently. I've bought every madden since 93, but this year I feel cheated since I don't have two NFL football games.

Aside from GTA, I only play sports games, so I haven't seen this type of thing before. Personally, I don't want to see anything on the screen that I wouldn't see during a tv braodcast unless it's absolutely necessary. I even turn off the player indicators when I'm playing against the CPU.

However, I really like the concept. I think it's the most innovative thing EA has implemented in many years.

Maybe dull the color so that it's not so prominent.

Or maybe divide the field so that you have to cycle through each area with the shoulder buttons. The better QBs have just 2 sections. As the QBs get worse the field is divide into more section so that the average rookie will have 5 or so areas to cycle through. As the QB cycles through the areas, you see his head & shoulders turn and only the WRs in the viewed area have icons over there heads.

Oh, you mean like 2K5 already does with its first person mode? You can cycle through your progressions and the screen moves with the first person view.

Man, I've been playing madden a lot right now(I didn't bring my xbox to this college thing and all everyone has is a ps2 and madden) and that passing is the least realistic thing that I've ever seen. It's way too easy to complete passes and it doesn't matter how far you drop back. I would like to play realistically but I'm not going to force myself to not pass if I'm in a bad situation just so that it can look like I'm playing realistically.

I like to see the full screen replays. Madden just makes me feel like they're in a hurry to get the game over with. I'm sure the game will be fine, but I'm not gonna even bother. I can wait for the 360 launch and stick with this years NCAA football and LAST years Pro games if I get an NFL jones.
Well with the limited presentation in past madden games, I want the the games to be over as soon as possible too. It's just boring playing a game without much presentation after being used to seeing great presentation in other games.

2k5 definitely had it's shortcomings, but the game forced you to play more realistically. After settling on a set of sliders, I never felt cheesed by another human player or the CPU. No go-to plays. No excessive drop backs. Vick could be held in check with the right defenses. The running and passing game play was equally developed. And the graphics and animations were superior in my opinion. The 2k5 models looked much better, and there seemed to be 3-4 times the number of animations... and gang tackling.

On the other hand, Madden allowed for more cheese. Deep balls were too easy. You could drop back excessively and still be successful. The running game wasn't as develped as the passing game. In addition, the graphics and animations were inferior in my opinion.

Regarding my concerns with footbal video games, the 2k5 series was light years ahead. My only wish was that Sega adopted EA's non-gameplay stuff like play calling screens, stat sorting, overall presentation(Not tv style presentation, but the way the game looks on the screen. Tough to explain), ect.

Like I said above, there were things I wanted Sega to steal from EA, but none of it was game play related. And I didn't see a need for both games, and I consider myself a real football fan. I've watched, played or coached football for the past 22 years.

But EA has a life to it that Sega was missing. It was really noticable in the basketball games, especially college. 2k is like watching a game in a highschool stadium/arena, but with professional players, announcers and camera men. EA is like watching a game in a professional stadium/arena, but with highschool players, announcers and camera men. I can't explain it any better than that.
