How come I can't fair catch? and how do I..

....I can't seem to fair catch. It's cost me to fumbles the other team has run back for TD's in 3 games. I've hit the triangle key, it hasn't worked. I read the directions and it says you have to control the guy, so I've hit the circle key and the X key first, but still I get creamed.

Secondly, that freaking worthless flashlight effect for the QB...anyway, I've turned it off, and it's gone when I'm on offence, but when I'm on defense and the other QB drops back, there's the freaking iritating flashlight effect. How the heck do I turn it off when I'm on defense?
