Why Am I having trouble with this?

I know what buttons does the dives in the game, but my question is why does the QB slide only work sometimes and not when I want it to. I would scrabble in pratice mode the run with the Qb and 99 % of the time he just dives foward. It also says in the controller layout, if you press x with the receiver he will duck the tackle. I only seen this random, I never see my reciever duck when I press the dive button he just dives foward, I even tried diving right before the tackle.

I'm wondering the same thing? I recall last year if you hit the dive button and held down the right shoulder button (I think), you could do a QB slide. I don't know how to do it this year. And when you dive, you're at risk of fumbling.
