Madden 2006 sold 2.5 million copies in August

Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 06, as expected, was the top-selling game for the month, leading sales on all current-generation console platforms. According to Wedbush Morgan Securities, the title sold approximately 2.5 million units, compared to 2.1 million sold over the same period last year of Madden NFL 2005. (gamespot)

Not Bad but they sold 2.1 million during the same amount of time last year and they are the only nfl game in town, Dont you think they should have sold more copies then this like maybe 3.5 this may turn out to be a lose lose situation for NFL and EA, just my opinion......

You can't call it a lose/lose situation until you compare it with the number of NFL 2k5 copies sold in August of last year (actually July since they released the game QUITE early to precede Madden). That way you'll get an accurate picture of how many 2k'ers purchased Madden and how many stayed home.

I'm not a fan of the deal by any means, but an accurate economic analysis as opposed to glossing over the facts is needed before opinions are given as such.

also, there were SEVERAL people who bought both games- myself included

no need to buy two maddens this year.... 2.5 million maddens is probably right about how many they thought they would sell

not sure if that stat includes the PC version but last year, the PC version wasn't released until mid September.

I too bought both games last year. Too many variables...we gamers are a tricky lot.

Not that it really matters but how many platforms and devices did Madden sell on? Then how many did VC sell on? I know VC only sold on 2, not including Gamecube correct?? Don't know about Madden though. Someone drop that knowledge please....
