A few questions for the producer of Madden 07 (360)
I hope these don't seem petty or personal, they're maybe not the type of questions you normally see asked in game type interviews but I'd honestly like to see what the response is:
How was it that the game was released with the fatigue system broken? We don't need names but where exactly did the break down occur and what is your responsibility for the glitch?
Do you realize that in the brief reports regarding the Madden team working on a patch for the fatigue glitch, that the explaination was murky; the "players fatigue at a slower rate than in the past" and "fumbling more" when fatigued raise a lot of concern that the patch will not be a genuine fix for fatigue. Could you come on to the fan message boards and make a post about this?
Did you know that the fatigue system was broken when the game shipped? If you didn't know about the problem, how can you explain such an oversight?
Do you have any ideas why the fatigue glitch was not spotted at the community day? Were the copies played that day afflicted by the glitch?
Don't you consider the fact that there is no display of opponent's remaining time outs to be a major problem? Shouldn't this be fixed in the patch, and how would you explain your rationale for leaving a fix of this magnitude out?
Can you explain why the Madden deveopment team does not host any public blogs and do not make appearances on public messageboards like many other game developers?
Do you realize that there is a large and vibrant Madden fan community on the internet? Why is your interaction with the online community next to non-existant? What do you think about the many examples of game developers who have respectful and helpful interactions with their fan base?
Can you explain the rationale behind the "Whoosh BOOM!" sound effect for long passes? What was the meeting like where that feature was approved? Did any memebers of the team object? If this is a desirable feature, then why don't more situations have comic/dramatic sound effects? Can we get a duck quacking sound for badly thrown passes next year? (just kidding)
Why was the ability to edit players at will removed?
Why is there no option to play CPU vs CPU games?
Why can't we adjust the camera angle, was this a design decision or technology limitation?
Why is there no ability to play random teams? Do you know that many online players like to play each other using random teams, playing one game with each side?
Can you explain the rationale to replace the walk-up to the line with cutscenes on every play? Do you realize that the walk up is an important part of a football game where a lot of game relevant actions are taking place?
Why aren't there more options in the game, for example; why isn't there an option to turn off the walk-up cut scenes? Why is there only an on/off switch for injuries instead of a slider, etc...?
Why is the game so accomodating of "cheeze" type players? Shouldn't it be more difficult to play in an unrealistic style, like dropping back 20 yards or rolling out the QB on every play?
Why aren't penalties simulated to occur at a realistic amount? Does the EA marketing department have significant say in these types of design decision? Do you realize that many of the sliders have little or no effect on gameplay, why is this?
Do you have any words for the many fans that are disappointed that Madden feels more like an arcade game than an NFL football game? Couldn't Madden better accomodate the players that are football fans while keeping the arcade player happy?
