This is a press release that was released from EA yesterday:

"FIFA 07 on the Xbox 360 moves away from the traditional animation-based game engine and now enables raw physics and data to drive the action, creating true-to-life movement and the most advanced visuals seen in a football game. Player characteristics are based on brand-new traits and twice the number of attributes, so you won't see two players moving in exactly the same way. Instead they look and behave like the athletes we see gracing the pitch week-in, week-out."

Amazing. Gridiron football is perhaps THE most physics driven football variation in the world, with the totally array of body sizes and positions, and FIFA gets true physics before Madden - EA's best selling, best revenue raising series in existence.

And why? Because FIFA has direct competition with Pro Evolution Soccer. Look no further than that.

It is no coincidence that EA adds more each year to it's basketball, hockey, and soccer titles than it does to it's bread and butter. Some will say Madden is so great and established it doesn't need to add so much each year...but I won't even try to rationalize with those people.

I am not here to bash Madden because I actually like Madden 07 on the 360. It doesn't suck me in like some other games but I do play it from time to time where as I couldn't stand Madden 06 for more that 2 weeks.

Competition is good in all aspects of life. Whether you are a fan of one company or another, it benefits you as a consumer if your company of choice has competition.
