i don't know then maybe the cpu decides whether to put your best corner on their best receiver depending on how good the receiver is because i was playing the cpu with the packers and they had steve smith in the slot and al harris was the one guarding him, i'm going to put the game in and try to figure this out right now.

Re: How do you assign a CB to a WR?

It matches your #1 CB on the offensive play's #1 WR.

If your human opponent moves his best WR to the slot, then that's technically the #3 receiver position.

The CPU won't do it because it keeps its best lineups on the field in order. Humans don't have that problem...they'll exploit anything.

So your CB depth chart assigns per the offense's depth chart, but not specific substitutions from formation to formation, etc. It's still looking at what would be considered "WR1", "WR2", etc...not where their best WR actually is.

that's realistic though because in real life the cornerback positions are called left and right corner back and most cornerbacks only play on one side of the field no matter what side the WR is on.

But many times...in recent history for the Raiders, for example...Charles Woodson would "shadow" the other team's best receiver, and now Nnamdi Asomugha has the same role. Michael Huff will follow Antonio Gates/Tony Gonzales everywhere they go, etc.

So, at a minimum, if you have a "weapon" DB, perhaps they should allow you to lock him to a man or play a rover role, etc.

I beg to differ many top Corners play all sides of the field.

Re: How do you assign a CB to a WR?

I usually watch to see where the best WR lines up and then formation sub my D before I pick it to get my good CB on the same side. Though you still can't match a #1 CB to a slot guy if they formation subbed it. In that case, my manual safety play is the last resort.
