Re: How did Madden get the wonderful reviews it received?

I enjoy Madden. I'd never give it over an 8, but it's enjoyable.

I think something that's going to be proven in time is this game needs a new engine. The "from the ground up" claim is nonsense. This game has added animations, but it's still the same engine.

interestingly enough an editor at gamestop get fired for writing a poor review for a game that was advertising on their site. take any review with a grain of salt until you get some user reviews.

Maybe it was what was said. I have to see this.
I thought people were complaining because they didn't think OS rated it low enough lol.

It's good that the situation w/gaming site reviews is being brought to light. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts though. As far as Madden community day... why would it be expected that someone would speak out negatively and risk not being asked back the following year? For years you've had guys coming back speaking glowingly of the game - and year in and year out, consumers fall for the hype. Last year [seemingly] it was EA's clever approach of having certain sites release glowing reviews prior to the game's release (TeamXBox - Madden gameplay = 9.8 should sit like an anchor around their necks). As bad as everyone admits Madden 06 was, IGN still gave it an 8. While it's difficult to compare different sports, they NBA2K8 a "7.9" this year? The articles put out [seemingly] to purposely discredit APF? I recall long threads here on OS talking about various negative APF-Pastapadre articles. People need to make themselves more aware of what seems like concerted efforts to make sure the status quo is maintained.

Unfortunately come draft time, EA will start beating the hype drums and people here on the forums will again happily line up begging for any scrap of information they can get. At some point Tiburon will get it right. They've certainly been given enough chances.

They're the same sites that hype Madden year after year and then tuck their tails between their legs when the crap hits the fan and we discover that it's the same old Madden. These same sites don't allow any negative talk about Madden and ban folks and give them timeouts when they say something is "gasp" wrong with Madden. As for the great reviews Madden gets year after year: I have no idea how they get them. Anyone who spent more than a half hour with this game knew that it was broken out of the box and had serious problems.
Dave you speak the truth. I thought these sites would be more reliable than the major sites but boy was I wrong. Yup, it cost me 120 bones (NCAA/Madden) because I believed the hype. The excuse of reviewers not playing the Madden enough doesn't wash for me because my first game in the first quarter I fumbled 3 times. The flaws was evident and I knew reviewers wouldn't play/touch franchise mode.

The sad thing is next year reviewers will give Madden props for fixing these issues with the game.

My solutions is Gamefly.

Peace

My expectations was so high for this gen. I thought and hope to get a new football engine but we only received last gen engine with this gen spray paint.

Okay, I think this thread has gone on long enough. Seems like the type of stuff you could just be putting in the "I have a problem..." thread.
