When you sign someone lets say to a 7 year $49 Mil a bulk of that money they get in salary will come in the last years in their contract: This won't be exact but it may give you an idea of how the contract is structured that I've noticed.
Year 1 - 3.5mil
Year 2 - 3.5mil
Year 3 - 3.5mil
Year 4 - 7.5mil
Year 5 - 9.5mil
Year 6 - 10.5mil
Year 7 - 11mil

for those you played the game for a while.. how good is the cap room?
i mean, can you sign every player you want... or after a few season cap room start to be a problem?

any house rule?

I understand that part I guess but that's like a 40 million diff in all contracts, it's just insane. There's no way I can afford my normal players. I'd have to dump my top 3 guys to have room.

Fantasy drafted team.

My top 5 caps are

LT 10.38M
Edwards 9M
McNabb 6M
Moss 6M
Winfield 5M

The rest are pretty low

that don't make too much sense unless some are 2year/5+mil contracts

Re: Cap went from 26.67mil to -23mil in the offseason?

I hope it happens to me. I hate how easy it is to sign whoever you want and not run outta room. I even tried releasing players and re-signing them (mostly the better players with around 3 years on a contract). That way they get paid more. I did it with the buccs until it said I would go over the cap and then when I started a franchise they still had like 23 million so I don't know what exactly happened there. The cap has always been a little too user friendly. They need to make it so each team has their real CAP hits from previous cuts and trades. Also it doesn't seem like trading actually makes you take a CAP hit and if I understand it right you should. In a trade you would take the player's bonus and split it over the years they were signed to and that would be the cap penalty and when a player is cut it is the full bonus amount for the year after (if they are cut in midseason) and the year of (when they are cut in the offseason).
