need help

I received the ps3 for xmas, heres the problem. I have a toshiba 27' standard tv. I bought the ps3 5 colored component cables. Anytime I even so much as put the component cables into the back of the tv or I even plug in the actual ps3 powercord a scrolling white horizontal line appears on my tv. So not only can i not play ps3 without an annoying white line running through my set, but I cant even watch cable for the same reason. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a setup in the ps3 that I didn't do so it can read my tv? Funny thing is even with my ps3 off the white lines are there as long as the component cables are plugged in or the actual power cord is plugged in. This makes no sense.Dowie

Do you have component inputs on the back of your tv? (red,green,blue)?

yes I use the component outputs that have 2 red a blue a grren and a white. They are specifically made for the ps3.
