Do you honestly prefer 08 over 07, and if so, why?

I've read the franchise mode in 07 is much better with Bruno and the newspaper headlines, and I also have read that the animations/graphics are virtually the same. What makes 08 that much better than 07? Thanks.

Actually, as a Franchise guy I would argue that the best and possible the last decent version of Madden was 05. Madden 05 was the first game that I had more than 2 seasons invested because I didn't pick up any Madden afterwards. With what became known as the 'Manefesto" 05 was the most realistic and the last time, arguably, that all the sliders worked. It also was the last time that SIMMING in a Franchise gave decent stats. I tried 08 for the PS2 and it was ok with a lot of work put into SIM stats (if you could overlook the slow response time between screens). I haven't even tried 08 for the PS3...I've heard the accelerated clock was missing and that's enough for me. (seriously, how do you go backwards on something like that?) Ironically, getting a PS3 for Christmas ended up being the worst thing for me regarding football. The wife will only allow one system and Madden 05 is not backwards compatable. Truth is, I'd still be playing 05 if I could hook up both systems. I had up to date draft classes and was 8 seasons in, with "fun" things like the Cards becoming the Las Vegas Spartans, the Jets in Manhattan, and the Cowboys with a brand new stadium. Oh how I miss it. Writing this response has made me want to temporarily shelve the PS3 and go back to the PS2. Damn backwards compatability issues.

Hmmmm, you're not the first person I've heard from that said 05 was the best. I wish I still had my NCAA roster file to go with this one. Thanks for the input, I'll file it away in my memory bank for further consideration.

If I may ask 1 more question...

Does 07 have the canned 2-man "gang tackles" animations in it? NCAA 07 did not, and I was wondering if it was the same with Madden 07. Last question, I promise. Thanks.

Madden 05 was definitely the best Madden IMO.

I loved '05. would rather be playing that with current rosters.

Yes I prefer 08 over 07. Why? Well '08 has everything that '07 had plus:

Smarter CPU controlled QB A.I.
Defensive players don't make plays on balls that they can't see.
Fantasy Challenge Mode.
Smarter draft logic.
Weapons.
WR's with high AWR run more effective routes than WR's with low AWR.


I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Id also add better frame rate and new animations such as gang-tackling, mid air collisions, tip toe, and 1 hand grabs.
