EA has been missing this since last gen. This current gen has taken it to a new level of terrible tho. Looks improved this year tho, not much , but it's something.
@ PBS.

Re: Espn Intergretion?

There's a reason why NFL 2k5 implemented the ESPN license so well: it was made by ESPN/2k! der....

But I also think that EA should have it so where there's like a mini-pregame show while loading saying who's hot, who's not, studs, duds, predictions, etc. and then have that lil' pregame show swing it over to Collinsworth and Hammond for the game.

Re: Espn Intergretion?

I guess im the one only one who is happy with how they are using the ESPN license. and i agree that they are using it the way they agreed upon. i mean think about, if they were supposed to use the license to present the game the way 2k5 did they would have done it this year. this year they focused on presentation/commentary and there is no ESPN in sight! so at this i point i have to believe they never agreed to use it that way.

i love they the way they use it now though. the updates and the video highlights for every sport is really cool to me. the upgrade in presentation this year is looking pretty good. i wish they would have added halftime and post game shows but hopefully they will put that in next year with added commentary they have to add.

I sorta agree with you. I like how they are using it now (ESPN license), it's just that it wouldn't kill them to implement it more but I'm not going to rant or anything how it totally kills the game since it's not implemented to its fullest potential. The game is good with or without the ESPN license.

The amazing integration that NFL2k series used the ESPN license was not only superior but it would make alot more people interested in checking out ESPN than the boring way EA has used it thus far.

So basically the excuse, if true or not, holds no ground because it makes no sense at all from any perspective.
It holds plenty of ground on either side. ESPN does not need to use its own resources or personalities (ie Chris Berman etc) and EA's EA Sports brand isn't lost in the shuffle. Also the reason EA stopped using their EASN branding they did in the sega genesis days is due to at the time ESPN threatened to sue them for EASN sounding too similar to their own name.

Quite frankly NFL 2k5 was the only product in the line to use the ESPN license as deep as it did, none of 2k's other sports titles got that treatment, and sure it was cool and all, but its not the end of the world that you seem to be trying to make it out to be. Madden 09's presentation actually seems pretty damn good, especially with additions like indepth breaking down of plays via telestrator by Collinsworth and loud crowds that actually realistically react to whats going on down on the field. Considering how terrible the atmosphere is in most of 2k's sport catalog, the NHL sku in particular, I'd say Madden 09's presentation is a huge step up compared to the last couple iterations.

The presentation in madden is a step forward, how could it not be. It doesn't take much to improve what was essentially no presentation.

NFL2k5 was the 2K sports only product with the ESPN license because before 2k sports had another chance EA bought the ESPN license and NFL license, and Arena League License and NCAA and etc.....

Sadly, most likely we will never see another 2K sports game now that EA is once again attempting a hostile take-over of take-two.

Your initial paragraph doesn't make much sense either. NFL2k5 incorporated ESPN personalities and presentation, into it's game and take2 or 2k Sports never got lost in the shuffle. In fact, they did it in such a way that made both ESPN and the NFL2k sports stand out and be remembered to this day.

Really? What about the rest of the 2k5 line that had barely any ESPN intergration at all aside from a replay "swoosh" saying ESPN? EA owns NCAA? Thats news to me, from what I recall 2k canned CH2k9 due to lack of sales. Not even mentioning the sports line at the time was called ESPN Football. Hell they actually relied on the ESPN name more than they did 2k sports to begin with.

Another thing people tend to forget, Take 2 bid on both the NFL license and when their license with ESPN was up, they could have renegotiated I'm sure. Personally I've become pretty disenchanted with 2k sports on the whole the last couple years with the exception of the NBA title, when you continue to build on an engine that is 5+ years old, leave bugs intact from year to year and flat out lie about a product like the MLB2k8 team did, you know theres a problem somewhere.

Now that Kush is no more and VC will be taking over both MLB and NHL maybe the ship can be righted but I have my doubts, its the same situation that turned most of us away from EA's titles in the first place only a few short years ago.

As for EA's takeover bid, with how well GTA4 has sold, I think it will be a while longer yet that Take2 can hold off, the stock is way up, the profits are way up for a change. Now if they can just avoid shady accounting practices and SEC investigations maybe they can really turn the whole company around, fix the sports line and compete as hard as they did during the PS2/Xbox1 days. Because if that happens, we as the gamers win by having more than 1 great football, baseball, or hockey game to play.
