Following earlier reports, Take-Two has officially confirmed that College Hoops 2K9 has been cancelled. This has happened due to 2K Sports and the Collegiate Licensing Company unable to reach a licensing agreement.

http://www.digitalbattle.com/2008/01...2k9-cancelled/

“2K Sports has decided not to continue negotiations with the CLC for the license for its top-rated College Hoops franchise, which would have been released next in November 2008,” commented a Take-Two representative on the matter. “We are committed to providing fans with high-quality, critically-acclaimed sports games, but given our disciplined approach to the business, we do not believe the current discussions would result in an acceptable outcome.”

This leaves the market open to sports games only from EA Sports, who sealed a five-year deal with the NFL in 2004, followed by a six-year deal with the NCAA in 2005.

2K sports NCAA license ran out and it's obvious they couldn't match the price EA paid.

And you know this how? Maybe the NCAA wanted more for their license renegotiations and 2k just didn't think it was viable due to CH not really being a huge seller to begin with? Why is it with some of you guys have this huge conspiracy about EA? Do you honestly believe that EA would go out of their way in regards to a college basketball title, a game that really only sells to the hardcore college bb fan in the first place, that they would offer more for a license then they would have to pay? Thats a pretty insane line of thinking.

I can understand having a preference, I perfer EA's hockey and football game, but I perfer 2k's NBA game by leaps and bounds over Live. What I don't get is the blind fanboism when both companies titles have their own pros and cons. It should be about the games themselves, not about who's name is on the front of the box.

Yea I do believe they'd go out of their way to do that. They have bought out tons and tons of companies and bought up every license possible besides baseball, which they will soon aquire when they take over take 2. This is nothing against IAN and the other developers here as they have nothing to do with what the executives do.

Soon all of us will only have one choice of sports games. Have you seen the repeated attempts for a hostile buy-out of take 2. After that EA will control every professional sport. There will be no choice for sports gamers, so it's either no game or Nba Live, March Madness and the other games. It's sad to see this happen.

I dont' care who's name is on the box. Well it doesn't really matter because soon we will only find one name on the box of professional sports games.

Even if you don't like some of 2k's sports games it's competition, and that drives innovation and gives choices to gamers. It soon will be gone once Take 2 is gone. I'm sure developers like Ian and others don't like to see this happen, because they know guys just like them will lose there jobs, and it will damage the evolution of sports gaming forever.

Because the hatred of big companies is pretty much fueled on by the American media and in the videogame industry sports fans have no bigger target than EA Sports, the typical evil corporate goliath who enjoys collecting it's huge buckets of money while it stomps on the neck of all of it's consumers. Oh and EA kills puppies too

Yep this is definitely a case where EA bought the license so others could not use it for games not because they had major plans for it. It's obvious EA is never going to use the license like 2K did and the ESPN license is barely noticeable on any EA sports game.

They've had the license for several years now and done nothing with it.
