I think for most people that play a lot in franchise mode they control all the teams so if a number issue like that pops up then they can simply edit the number. I've always done that because the number issue drives me crazy too but I just control all the teams and then do the edits.

Re: Jersey # for generated players...

Maybe I'm weird, but I'd almost say that's an issue that Madden does better than reality. I'm not sure why they insist on having the strict number regulations like they do.

Look at some historic players... Paul Hornung was a RB wearing #5. Cliff Branch and Fred Biletnikoff were WRs with currently-not-allowed 21 and 25 numbers. Ted Hendricks wore 83 and played linebacker. It does look a bit strange today to see a LB wearing a 2 or something, but is there any real reason they shouldn't be able to? It seems like a rule that doesn't serve any actual purpose.

That said... it would be nice if we could edit all the players in franchise mode even they aren't on our team - at least the names, numbers and equipment. I can understand locking the ratings out to eliminate cheating though.

It's far from a game killer...but yeah, it bugs me too.

I'm also hoping it's been addressed.

The rule is there because it lets the refs know easier who is playing which position for eligible receiver situations. 1-19 QB, 20-49 RB, 80-89/10-19 WR, etc...

Also 50-79 are ineligible receivers on offense. TE are traditionally 80-89/40-49.

Are you serious? Man, some of the die-hards at MaddenMania are all over this.

not that its a big deal, just curious. lol its just bugging when i see it.
I'm pretty sure this is still there - haven't verified it myself but I asked around and no one knew anything about a task to fix it for 09 so that basically means it went unchanged. A designer has already written a design for this for 2010...hoping we get a chance to fix it (it's really small and not that big of a deal, I agree, but it also should be an easy fix and any time we can get realism fixes for cheap I am all for it).
