I got in touch with Bill directly to get some more info about this issue - so I'm doing some research now. The QA team is also looking into it as well.

One thing that's odd about this is that the "AI Script" (our script that handles CPU play calling logic) wasn't changed at all in this area from last year, or even the past like 6 or 7 years to my knowledge. I've never seen that situation occur on previous Madden's, (nor have I seen it happen yet this year but maybe I just haven't been in those situations), so again that's why we're looking into it and trying to figure it out.
