I see what you're saying, but most good coaches build their systems for their "centerpiece" players. The lions offense actually passed pretty well (Kitna actually delivered the ball just fine) but their line is weak and their running game was non-existent, leading to offensive struggles down the stretch.
As for the Dolphins trading for Boldin, it's actually realistic even from a system standpoint (ignoring Parcells, as he's more apt to trade for picks rather than trade away picks). Pennington is an above average QB with a below average (understatement) arm. Boldin is not a deep threat and actually would compliment the type of offense that the Dolphins run around Pennington and a strong rushing attack. They've bolstered their O-line and will continue to do so as long as Big Bill has anything to do with the Phins. It actually makes good sense. Plus, they've got the cap space to give Boldin the kind of deal that he wants.
You're entitled to your opinion of course, but as far as whether or not the trade is realistic, I don't see how it isn't (again, outside of Parcells...who has no influence in Madden...I think
