Re: 32 Team-controlled franchises

I understand the logic behind doing this, but I just can't get into it. It ends up being more work than fun and you don't get any sense of immersion in the mode, IMO. Obviously, fixing the AI logic and strategy would be the best case scenario, but why can't they give us full override control without us having to control all 32 teams? I rented NHL 2K9 this weekend and I like what they did with the franchise in that regard. You only control the team(s) you want but have full editing (including line-ups and ratings) for all the teams. Toss in the trade override and you get the ability to keep the AI in check, but you can also let it do it's thing too. I really wish they'd incorporate these kind of controls for the Madden franchise.

I also like a feature in MLB 2K8 (maybe the only thing I find actually good about that game) that would be good for use in Madden that allowed you to take it a step further and limit trades to players rated 80 and below. While I think that's pointless for a baseball game as high profile players are traded with regularity, it would be prime for football overall. The more control without me having to be the whole league, the better IMO.

If you do it like this though, Does that mean the cpu will never try to initiate trades like they might normally do???

Re: 32 Team-controlled franchises

people say that it is hard to be immersed but I find that since doing this when my Viking's game comes up for the week i'm super excited because it's the game I WANT TO PLAY.

playing the other one's are fun tho because it keeps everything fresh and you don't get bored. But people are right it does take a long time, 256 games i think. I'm on week 17 now of my first season and I started in November.

Re: 32 Team-controlled franchises

Yeah, people have been doing this for a long time now, mostly for more realistic franchise stats. There's a few threads in the sliders forum for good settings to use for each team. (if you want to sim the games)

I would do this, but it does eliminate all teams trading, unless you manually do it for each team.

For the draft though. All you have to do is just click 'simulate pick' for all other 31 teams, and then do your own pick normally.

Yea, That's what I dreaded, I wanted trades to still happen ....

Re: 32 Team-controlled franchises

I've been doing this for years. As for team-to team trading I do it myself. I just try my best to make trades realistic and fair. I also have a bunch of rules to make sure I don't make my own team too good. As the offseason, I do all that myself. It's really time-consuming, especially if it's your first time doing it, but I just don't trust the AI to make good decisions. When I do this I always end up with a very competitive league with players playing the right positions. I have found that, since I'm controlling all 32 teams' rosters, I become really interested in the results of games I would otherwise not care about. If I just controlled one team I would imagine that I would hardly even bother to check on what the other teams are doing.
