WR-DB interaction

Madden will not truly be next gen until this is fixed. Every WR runs the exact same routes and every CB plays the same. Now to go along with this, QB play also has to be fixed to allow pump fakes to be effective.

In real football, a perfect route combined with a perfect pump fake will beat a corner every time. This is not present at all in Madden. Defensive backs never fall down or get tripped up because a WR makes a great cut.

Thoughts?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Agreed somewhat, but the scenario you present is ideal and rare, namely, "perfect route combined with perfect pump fake." And no it will not beat the corner every time. Several variables must be taken into account. You think a CB is going to bite on a pump fake on 3rd and 15 every time? Pump fakes are generally used on double move routes or when the play has a route combination to get a 2 Deep Safety to Bite on one of the routes. No CB is going to bite on an out and up, curl and go, corner post, post corner on 3rd and 15. And they might not bite on it if you have not been previously taking the curl route.

But definitely, the WR/DB interaction, the WR route running, the DB press tech, trail man tech, hip riding all need MAJOR work. After playing online for a couple of days, this entire game needs some MAJOR WORK

Re: WR-DB interaction

The biggest flaw in WR/DB interaction is head tracking, especially in man coverage. A CB's AWR rating should make good defenders turn and look back at the QB when running with a receiver. How much ground is lost on the WR when the DB turns his head around should be dependant on his SPD/ACC/AGI ratings. If the DB doesn't turn his head to find the ball, then the most he should do is flail his arms up when the WR reaches for the pass and hit the receiver, not jump and deflect, or turn and intercept. Also, the DB needs to 'feed' the WR to the outside more, and jockey for that inside position.

In zone coverage, a defenders' high AWR rating should allow them to "see" the rest of the field so they can shade their zones appropriately instead of just being assigned to a spot on the field to backpeddle to. Defenders should never really abandon their zone, but they should have much more freedom to move themselves in between the QB and the receiver, especially when there is only one guy anywhere near their zone.

Re: WR-DB interaction

Its lame when everyone can make cuts like Wayne and Harrison.

Lack of wr routes lowers the effectiveness of these guys in real life.
