Re: Madden/NCAA Should Get Rid of the Sprint Button

No. Playing at variable speeds is a big part of football, and needs to remain in the game. What has to happen is for the sprint button to have realistic consequences-- more difficult movement, inability to execute special moves, poor balance, etc.. Using the sprint button when not warranted should be punished by seeing an upright back in the backfield get turned into a pancake.

Most games have poorly implemented sprint buttons. The idea that I can sprint in a 2-foot diameter circle is ridiculous enough, add to the fact that I can do it WHILE dribbling a basketball? Lame.

great ideas in this thread. I would love to see the sprint button go bye-bye.

I think the sprint button is superfluous as well. It's just intuitive to have a full sprint correlate to having the analog stick tilted up to the max. Now what you do with the vacant button/trigger is another story.

I say get rid of the turbo. I really like the idea of full analog speed control. Momentum is a big deal here too. If they could make it so that you had to throttle back to make hard direction changes, and could run a little slower behind the blockers and such then when you get in open field just hold it as far as it would go, that would be a lot of fun. Make the user feel much more in control too.

As far as the RT, i would say make it a move modifier. In the running game, while the right stick would do, head down, juke left, right, and stop move, spin move, stutter, whatever.(2k put the right stick and chaining moves together perfectly) if you hit the RT, then did those moves it would do a different variation of them, smaller, bigger, whatever way they wanted to modify it.

On defense, could either be used as the same way, or maybe even make it so that the RT would reach an arm out to try to execute a reach tackle. That coupled with the flowing blocking animations, would make a nice addition to the defensive run game.

If all else fails, and the turbo has to stay, It would be nice if it had a much bigger effect on fatigue. Even if there has to be a "turbo meter" so you could only hold the turbo button for so long until the player was gassed. Obviously the meter would go away much faster depending on a "fitness" or stamina rating.

Getting rid of the sprint button is a great topic to discuss and should be looked at for Madden'10. My take on it, would have to be to get rid of it.

The offense DOES seem just just stop blocking. I do not know what it is, but until the O line gets reworked where its not a DICE roll, the running game will never be there.
To me, I would moreless let the USER control how the sprinting goes. Add the feature of tapping to allow the USER get the amount of sprinting that can go. The faster the player taps, the faster he goes.

Since we are so fond of the word "USER" playing madden, why not make it a game where the "USER" actually does something and not just hold ONE button to make him sprint. Useless button IMO but u have to hold it because otherwise the player is nothing. Fatigue is not a factor so why not just hold it all game?

(Holding Y or triangle for ps3, to make a "USER CATCH" is not a user catch IMO. TIMING of the catch AND getting him into POSITION (without WARP would be nice) should be control of the user would make it a USER CATCH)

Anyways, new to the forums. Great to see Ian and the community corresponding about Madden '10

I would like to keep turbo though.

But turbo should destroy your fatigue ( see fifa 09 ).
