This is a great post. This would add so much to the feel of the game. It's so important to make the players seem life-like.

Dead on the money, this is a major reason why the game does not truely resemble what we see on Sundays imo.

Re: Defensive Player Stances: Pre-Play

The Pre-Play sequence in general has irked me over the past few years. They need to add variety by position so that the O-line as an example doesn't appear to be sychronized swimmers.

NFL2K5 wasn't awesome in this category, but I think they did a solid job of bringing in some variety to the pre-play sequence. For example, on some plays, I'd see the QB adjusting his knee pads before he lines up under center. At other times, I'd see him turning his head left and right before getting to the LOS. It was also cool to see one of the O-lineman turn around to face the QB before taking his place on the line as if to signal something to the QB.

As it's often said on this board, the little things...

Here are some pics

MLB's

Notice that Willis and Lewis have somewhat similar stances. When we get a bit winded we stand up a bit more like Lewis is. But when fresh, we are more inclined to line up like Willis. Low so we can explode out of our stance and do what we need to do.

Here is another of Urlacher. The one thing that needs to be added is subtle anticipation animations. The guys are too still before the snap. They should be anticipating.

Madden 09 did improve in this regard. For one I know the Safeties basically stand up now. The screen shot in the original post is old.

OLB's 3-4 Defense

Key thing here for OLB's in the 3-4 when rushing, inside foot forward, outside foot back. Explode off the inside foot. Madden 09 has terrible 3-4 OLB stances.

Re: Defensive Player Stances: Pre-Play

DE's, should have alot of stances.

First let's look at Justin Tuck

He has his outside hand down. But that's because he's lined up inside the TE and has an OLB lined up beside him.

But now, if the End is the open end, like Dwight Freeney in this pic

You put that inside hand/arm down, keep that outside arm free, outside leg up. Here he is again

Madden 09 doesn't do a good job here either.
