Re: After Huddle Animations

Great thread!

I really hope the developers are reading this, I can't stand the unnatural, pre-canned hirky jerky way the players move in Madden 09.

Ex. Getting to kick a field goal with 4 seconds left on the clock right after your QB chucks a deep one and the WR is tackled on the 10 yardline in the middle of the field. With the playclock still running this could not happen IRL.
Excellent point.

And the no-huddle sequence looks horrendous. Absolutely horrendous. It's like everyone is running around on speed with jetpacks strapped to their backs, bouncing around and even into each other like pinballs. It's a horrible sight. I cannot believe that they didn't look at the quality of that and add a no-huddle cutscene to cover it up.

Even though the no-huddle cutscene in Madden 07 didn't fix the problem you mentioned, it did do one thing right... IT LOOKED COOL. A few more cycles of work and they probably could've blown that out even more and fixed the timing problem you mentioned, too. So we go from that to this terrible-looking situation instead. I just don't understand why they do these things.

Agreed. It was always awesome to see Manning calling everyone up to the line with a sense of urgency. Though it didnt fix any problems, like you said it just looked freakin cool.

Now they really have to work on something to make the players know where they are on the field so you don't have a "game of pinball" when you press "Y/Triangle"

In Madden 10 they could even just make the QB urge everyone to the line because it is just annoying that you complete a play and everyone gets up and just starts running to the new LOS

Re: After Huddle Animations

Some very good points have been made.

I think what may initially appear to be a "cosmetic" fix, actually affects game play, due to timing and other issues.

I think one ray of hope with the "new" approach to Madden is that things are being fixed at the very basic level. Ian has discussed such issues, as the FB dive glitch. The problem as it was described, developed when trying to fix an animation issue, which ended up causing gameplay issues.

Everything is tied together. I think the new approach to doing things right, from the basics will go a long way to fixing everything.

The only sad part of all this is why did it have to take so long, to start doing it the right way...

Re: After Huddle Animations

In light of the content discussed in this thread, I wanted to share Phil's response to a comment I made pertaining to this issue. This below comes from the Have A Laugh On Me thread that Ian posted displaying their new mo-cap suit a few months back:

It's not typical mocap with cameras...the sensors are all embedded in the suit and it wirelessly transmits back to the software:

The (hopefully) sarcasm on Phil's part would indicate this area will be addressed in Madden 10.

Re: After Huddle Animations

I'm more concerned about the animations after the play. In Madden, at the end of every play it just takes you right back to the play-calling screen, unless it wants to show you a replay/Backtrack. 2k5 (and to a degree APF) did it right where there are small animations post-play. I think that adds more realism to the game than slowing down/changing how people run up to and set up at the LoS.

Re: After Huddle Animations

I understand the concern, and I'm really doubtful that they fix this.

Anyone ever notice how the QB freezes in a squat stance with his hands out as if he were frozon while typing on a keyboard on deep throws?

Please tell me you guys see this kind of stuff when you watch replays...

I hate it, it looks so fake. Then as soon as the ball is caught, dropped, or intercepted the QB resumes his jogging & robotic like movement...
