That's a different feature than we're talking about. Player Lock won't be in Madden, but nothing was said about D assist...

Because Madden is too wide open and too many long plays happen due to just a guy having better sticks. In the NFL you do have assistance. All of the other guys on the field are as highly skilled as you. They automatically flow to the play based on their skill. Maddens AI leaves too many avenues to hop and juke through based on it's weaknesses. I would actually like to have the B off man help button, as well. That would cut down on much of the wide-open gameplay that isn't true the real sport. Then it would actually take more than 5 plays to cover 100 yards. The game is supposed to be going "sim" and that means less big plays and more long-driving, time-consuming, proper playcalling football. Just as long as it is implemented well and based on ratings, I say I like it.

Brian no offense man, but the entire point of videogames is that we have control over the players/characters/action on screen. Madden from its inception was built for head to head gameplay. These games are designed with a full array of player attributes that cover general athleticism to on field awareness. Also, the game already gives you the option to let the CPU make plays based on those ratings. So if the ratings and general AI arent enough to put defensive players in the proper position to make a play, then theres a problem already. There shouldn't be a magic "assist" button to help people do the most basic, prerequisite to playing any game.... actually controlling your players.

As long as the design team is gearing toward more SIM gameplay, that should be enough. I'm tired of actual skill being taken out of the game by eliminating control. This game is not "coach mode". This goes along with Tiburon eliminating the timing of the button press to actually make plays. Holding down a button the entire time the ball is in the air to make a catch or swat/pick isn't manual control at all, takes no skill, and simply isn't even fun. Now they are adding in the magic "defensive assist" too? When is enough, enough?

If Ian and Co. do their job and get the game to play more realistic, and add balance to both sides of the ball, that is all that is necessary. I beg them to bring back the days when actually having to time your button press mattered to make a play. I don't understand why anyone would want everything made EASY for them? Isnt the entire point of the game to have to play, practice, and put time in to hone their skill?

The way its going why not just eliminate control period and limit us to calling plays? Make it "coach mode" only.... arrghh!

I just read the blog and it seems the defensive assist is to be used in conjunction with the player lock feature. It could be used just to help you know where you are going since on the player lock, the camera changes to be behind the player you are controlling.

Will this defensive Assist be MORE Effective than CPU control? Will it be more effective than human control? Just sounds real gimmicky and once again dumbs down gameplay.

Looks like im NOT buying NCAA this year. Im REALLY hoping this isnt a Madden feature. Madden is based on the NFL and professional players. There is no "assist" button for an NFL player on Sunday. So i hope the Madden team stays true to their slogan this year. "If you see it on Sunday, see it in Madden NFL". What it should include is "If you dont see it on Sunday, you wont see it in Madden NFL either".
You actually wont buy whats possibly going to be the best iteration of each game for this generation of consoles because of d assist?
I dont get it. Its not like your going to be forced to use it.

This feature makes so much sense.

Lets say you chose the safety preplay and let the cpu control him until the ball was in the air, but u accidently tapped the analog assist, Defensive assist will help you get back into position.
