Brian no offense man, but the entire point of videogames is that we have control over the players/characters/action on screen. Madden from its inception was built for head to head gameplay. These games are designed with a full array of player attributes that cover general athleticism to on field awareness. Also, the game already gives you the option to let the CPU make plays based on those ratings. So if the ratings and general AI arent enough to put defensive players in the proper position to make a play, then theres a problem already. There shouldn't be a magic "assist" button to help people do the most basic, prerequisite to playing any game.... actually controlling your players.
As long as the design team is gearing toward more SIM gameplay, that should be enough. I'm tired of actual skill being taken out of the game by eliminating control. This game is not "coach mode". This goes along with Tiburon eliminating the timing of the button press to actually make plays. Holding down a button the entire time the ball is in the air to make a catch or swat/pick isn't manual control at all, takes no skill, and simply isn't even fun. Now they are adding in the magic "defensive assist" too? When is enough, enough?
If Ian and Co. do their job and get the game to play more realistic, and add balance to both sides of the ball, that is all that is necessary. I beg them to bring back the days when actually having to time your button press mattered to make a play. I don't understand why anyone would want everything made EASY for them? Isnt the entire point of the game to have to play, practice, and put time in to hone their skill?
The way its going why not just eliminate control period and limit us to calling plays? Make it "coach mode" only.... arrghh!
