Re: NCAA pic shows the procedural awareness

Ian(or anyone who knows) I don't know if you mentioned this before, but do the ball carriers use procedural awareness? Like if a player breaks for a nice gain and a player is pursuing him, does he look over at the defenders approaching him?

They're supposed to...not sure if it's working yet though.

Thanx for the response Ian. I can only imagine how cool it would look viewing a replay where a player is breaking down the sideline and he looks straight at a defender before mushing his face in with a monster stiff arm.

That could make for some fun target practice.
someone will try to exploit the refs in pick play fashion. What do you think?

That reminds me...Ian, please please please add in REAL stiff-arms. None of the crap you have in now, actually there is only like 2 stiff-arm animations we see in the game. This one below is like crazy because the ball carrier stiffarms him and then the guy like spins around in a very weird way.

No more of these crazy stiff-arms. Add in some real str8 arms into Madden 10.

Not that these aren't crazy...

Re: NCAA pic shows the procedural awareness

During stiff arms, there NEEDS to be more struggle between the defender and ballcarrier. It's not always a stiff arm that's gonna plant the guy into the ground. Hopefully Ian has worked on that and made for some really nice moments that make you go "wow, that was really cool."

I'm just kinda confused with your apparent frustration when a) we haven't released much info at all and b) we all have a pretty good understanding that realism is the direction the game needs to be going.
Simulation has been 2K's mantra for years now. I hope you guys are serious and this isn't just another marketing pitch.

You already know this, but A lot of what you're dealing with is fans frustration with the quality of EA's games. I'm a mod over at 2K Sports forums, and a huge fan of APF2K8. I have played Madden from year 1, and ever year since, but I no longer enjoy the game, and haven't been able to since 2005. Not because the game got worse, but because it didn't get any better game play wise and ESPN NFL 2K5 showed us what was possible with a game. There are gameplay features in that game that to this day don't exist in Madden. As a football enthusiast, and someone who loves to watch NFL (and play NFL games), this is frustrating, especially when EA holds an exclusive NFL license (worst thing to happen to football gaming ever). When you have a pattern of year after year of promises unfulfilled, and a competitor that can throw a game together in six months that has better game play, it's not hard to understand why consumers/fans are frustrated.

I want a good playing NFL game, and for now you guys are the only shot at it, so I hope you are honest in your desire to achieve and that you pull it off.

With that in mind, how is PA going to make the gameplay better? Is it a foundation feature for future releases, or will it directly affect game play in Madden '10?
