just started madden 09 franchise

i know its late for sure but i bought this game on day 1 and took it back after 1 hour of play because the football would not rotate then since i got it cheap and herd that the ball problem was addressed thought i would give it a try again. so here is what i noticed so far when the game zooms in on players faces they are kind of dark you can hardly see them.
putting the game on were it adapts to you with me picking the lions and using stanton as my qb with a rating of like 73 or something and playing three games i have completed 75 percent of my passes 10 tds 3 ints i also have been sacked 3 times averaging about 30 points a game compaired to 14 by computer ai. what exactly is the best way to get realistic stats as far as completions and such do i need to play all pro or all madden ? also whats up with no penaltys being called maybe 1-2 a game.
