Madden hasnt had a lob into the endzone. Thats my biggest pet peeve too because if i pick up a WR thats 6'7" 84 speed but great hands I want to just toss the ball up if there is a 5'10" CB on him. Currently in M09 its almost always a tip pass or a pick because the WR just sits there like a dummy.

Re: Forced 3 step drop? What is this?

Has Ian commented and said that it was going to be a forced 3 step drop?

I know the word "forced" originated b/c at the time we were playing the game, you could not break out of your drop. You could pass out of it, but you couldn't move. I know LBz and I didn't really have a problem with this. I remember Kane hating it.

Then, there were plans to tweak the dropback so that it indeed could be broken out of at an earlier point. However, I don't remember reading clarification that it would indeed be a mandatory three steps.

It's a delicate balance b/c as much as people don't want to be forced into bad throws for blitzes, fades, etc, I don't want the CPU or a potential human opponent to easily interrupt their dropback for an accurate pass either.

I do remember him saying he was going to move the breaking point of the drop up so you could get out of it sooner.

Re: Forced 3 step drop? What is this?

There should be a way to audible/change your dropback if you read the defense before the play. So if I have a 7 step drop back but I can see a blitz coming in I will change a route to fill the void where the blitz is then change my drop back to a 1-3 step drop back so I can get the ball out of my hands quickly. It could be a win-win for everyone.

thats a great point.. but that's why they get paid the big bucks..

Maybe have certain plays have a designated drop? Or just certain plays like the fade/screen where no penalty would be brought into effect? keep the penalty on if you try and throw earlier than the designated drop on plays that aren't specified? b/c like you said, if the D is bringing pressure, up in the Qb's face, it should result in a incompletion/interception many more times than a completion..

Re: Forced 3 step drop? What is this?

Another huge concern is if a nano is discovered that can get to your QB before a 3 step drop. Back in the day we'd combat this with motioning someone, snapping and quickly moving the QB behind the motioned player who would then pick up the nano... I understand we can now pinch the O-line, but still... I don't know, I just want to be in control 100% of the time and a forced drop really concerns me.

Either way, I should be able to SNAP, Turn and Throw to a WR if I see that the DB is playing very soft coverage... and same for a flare to the corner of the end zone.. .that play is used very often in teh NFL.

It seems to me like this is another scenario where they're trying to combat cheesing with something instead of just fixing the cheesing in the first place. I mean if you have an issue with people quick snapping and high passing to a tall WR then you gotta fix the DB / WR interaction on that type of play, not deny us the ability to snap and throw.
