Receivers need to TRY to catch the ball

How many times has this happened to you?

You put your main receiver on a deep route and plan to throw a deep pass. You snap the ball, drop back with your QB and the play is working out great: your WR has 1 man coverage on him. You throw it up to your receiver. As the ball is in the air, you switch to your WR to be able to do a user catch. The ball is a little bit overthrown and may be a bit harder to catch. As the ball comes down to your receiver, you press triangle (ps3) or Y (360) to catch the ball. Your receiver doesn't enter a catch animation, he just does that little movement with his hands, putting minimal effort into making the catch. The pass is incomplete.

This has happened to me many times, and not only offense. It happens to me when I try to go for an interception on defense too.

We need to see more animations of receiver going up and trying to catch the ball if its a bit overthrown. The ball could tip off their fingertips or maybe they make an amazing catch. I think we need more catching animations just in general. Same goes for the defense swat and interception animations.

Hopefully you guys know what catching animation I'm talking about....

Yep I know exactly what you mean and I hate it.

But the recent pics show that it's being addressed for Madden 10.

Re: Receivers need to TRY to catch the ball

Even if Im not user catching I want to see a player at least try for jumps balls and the long streak passes that may be overthrown. IRL they dont know (to an extent)that its to far so they will at least try to get the ball.

The animation in 09' is rediculous. Since when do receivers get gator arms and put their hands up for a millisecond before taking them back down.

How did that turn into the default catch animation???

This will be addressed if the game is going to be any good.

I love when my receiver flails his arms into the air, while not making a play on the ball... Or looking at the ball for that matter.
