You can pull the right trigger in and push the analog stick up too. I didn't even know clicking the stick was an option. I guess you are doing it wrong.

I'll have to rent Madden 09 on PS3 again. Its been a while since playing it.

I play PC Madden all the time.

But I am pretty sure something is different in the way you view your play in Last gen and Next Gen.

For the PS3, I simply hold the right trigger and press up for the actual play. The other directions are buff plays. I think it's pretty simple and easy.

I like where OP is thinking, but here is the issue. It is just too easy to accidentally show play with all the other offensive hot routes we have. Flipping the running play already uses Left and Right on right stick, so those buttons become useless. Also, if you want to pinch your d-line, but forget to press the correct button to audible, you could accidntally show your play.

I am guessing they had good reasons for taking out the last-gen style of showing the play art.

This is pure ignorance. The point of this option is for multiplayer on the same screen. You know, how Madden touries are played? If you hold the right trigger you see the coach cam, if you press up you see your play, if you press LEFT you see a fake play action play, if you press RIGHT you see a fake short pass play and if you press DOWN you see a fake run play, normally in the same style as the play action direction. This way you can fake/hide what your play is on the screen by either showing just one, wrong, play or by looking at all 3-4 plays and not giving away what the real play is.

This is great feature. The fact that it bothers you that you can't just look at your play in single player/online is tough. This is a staple of multiplayer play on the video game side of things that was needed for years and was introduced in madden 06 on the PS2/Xbox/NGC. It should never go away. Or at least not untill we stop playing two+ palyer games on one screen.
