opinions on user catching

Couldnt have said it better. Theres nothing worse than throwing a bad pass and Knowing theres nothing you can do to come down with the ball. I don't see any problem with abusing the user catch in Madden, just as long as the defender has every chance to defend every single pass. I WANT the game to become one-on-one, user vs user for the deep ball. But more than anything, what I DONT WANT, is what we have now. Hell, at least in 08, you knew your receiver would jump for the ball, even if it was a 15 foot, 360 degree spin spectacular catch that he would get undercut and crushed and knocked to the ground like a pro wrestler.

I didn't think Madden did this? When I hit B and switch to the player (never moved them) they didn't do anything. Just kept running as if no ball was in their area. Is the key to not hit B at all in order to let the AI make the catch?

They need to add better missed ball animations. Even if you never hit the button, the WR should still do something. Seeing a WR hit in the foot, back of the body or head just looks silly and not something I see on Sunday.

100% like last gen. It is awful right now that I am penalized for trying to make the catch myself, and I have a better chance of letting the cpu catch it.

It should be about timing and when I press the button to catch, the receiver should immediately go for the ball. If I mis-time the catch it's my fault. The aggressiveness and spectacularness (just made that word up) of the catch should be based on attributes.

Exactly.

The essence of a video, and real life, is timing.

Catching in 09 is just a crap shoot. THere are no advantages of user catch.

Don't penalize me for having some stick skill + timing + position/leverage.


My favourite things to do on legacy gen was catching the ball at its highest point.

Elite 8, any word on how or if user-catching as been revamped this year?

Yeah usering receivers sucks right now. Needs to be fixed. Hurts gameplay when you can't really jump or go for a catch when you want. So unresponsive and frustrating many times. Old gen was perfect. Need to implement this some how.

Yup. When I noticed this back on Madden 2002 or 2003 for the PS2, I was so surprised. I had always figured that switching to the WR and then timing the catch would be better, but then I let the guy catch it and he was doing aerial acrobatics to nab everything.

I'm indifferent to this and wouldn't mind it being an option. Some folks might not be good enough to switch and time a catch; others might be.

Just let the CPU do it, for online at least anyways. Why do I need to be penalized because some jerk decides to download "Wolverine" at the same moment I'm trying to catch and then "magically" decides not to download when he's at the QB position. Offline whatevers clever.

No. I dont want to rely on the CPU, I want to catch the ball myself. I might as well just call my play and put the controller down if I wanted the CPU to play for me.
