Has anyone brought up the numbering system for players?

For example, if I draft a college running back with the #5 or a line backer with the #31 will they carry those numbers to the NFL or will Madden assign them uniform numbers that fall in line with the NFL prerequisites?

I know it seems like a small thing, but there is nothing more annoying than watching a bunch of NFL teams have players run around with numbers that they cannot wear in the NFL.

I am hoping one of two changes will happen in Madden 2010.

1. There will be some sort logic that assigns appropriate numbers to players based on their position

OR

2. The user has the ability to edit ALL players, not just those on his/her team.
I am only happy if option 1 would be implemented... I don't have the time to screw with all of those new players each year...

But this has annoyed me this is something that took me right out of the game...and I thought this isn't real football...

I feel the same about #16, #80 and #42 in SF. I don't know if Madden will acknowledge retired numbers, but you should at least be able to edit other teams player's numbers. For example "options, edit player, assign number." I know that everything else should be greyed out or the pop up "cannot edit non-user controlled teams." A small detail, but it nags at me as well. hate to have a year or mre go by and this still be an issue. These kinds of things in NBA games drive me nuts in the past too.

Player numbers, in the NFL more than other sports are a dead giveaway to who you are watching. If you see the front of a Patriots jersey adn it has the number 55 you are more likely going to think it is a Wille McGinnist jersey than a Junior Seau one. If I trade Matt Cassel to the Chifes in 09 he will wear #16 and there is nothing I can do about that. Len Dawson's #16 is retired in KC and Matt is going to wear #7. Just un-authentic and not the direction Ian says he wants M10 to go in.

I think a good way to put this is that having this option won't make M10 the perfect game, but not having it will keep it from being a perfect game. Does that make sence?

That makes sense.

But did you not read Josh Looman's post.

He said all palyers will be assigned numbers within their range.

This included imported players.

I am guessing that EA cannot removing team specific numbers. They probably do some sort of vlookup of postion->acceptable numbers. I doubt that have a table for each specific team.

That is why allowing users to edit all team numbers would be a plus.
