I go with Play Now and then Practice. I sure hope Madden development team's improvements come through in the final product. I would be so happy to be blown away by the presentation and gameplay during my first game this year...something that hasn't happened in years!

I spend like the 1 month or so just playing Play Now games testing sliders

quite a lot of offline users. very interesting. this is why question EA's 'telemetry' when they talk about usage of the game, cause a lot of offline users might not even be connected, so does game telemetry still get recorded and sent to EA in that case? would love to hear EA peeps chime in on that, though I understand the need to keep that kind of data in-house.

They should be able to do like Relic does with CoH and have users connect to their servers regardless of what they are playing. Gather statistics information (this would be really important for their online advertising as well) especially for gathering targeting information.

This wouldn't get them exact stats, as not everyone is connected to the net, but it would be a closer number than just going by the number of online players, and or games played (not sure what metric they use as a point of analysis).
