pretty baseless argument there. would you care to elaborate my friend?
on the contrary. the reality is that we SHOULD have the ability to shorten the play clock. and i've been on here with the reasons a few times in different threads. some have argued differently, but they were saying an accelerated clock would help. they didn't discount it altogether. I still think you have to look at 'proportions' of time.
Reality : 15 minute quarters
Madden : 5 minute quarters
Reality : 40 second play clock
Madden : should be 13.3 seconds if you do the math. go ahead. do it.
Here's how it would work: the clock
doesn't run while offense and defense choose their play. precedent is already there as the defense choose their play in 10 'untimed' seconds. do the same with the offense, or give them 15 total untimed seconds. same difference.
only thing is you might need to add a few seconds to the base 13.3 (or whatever it is, based on quarter length) so that you take into account breaking the huddle and going to the line. ok so add another 5 seconds for that. but that's it. There's plenty of time to set the line, set hot routes, fake snap, put someone in motion, etc, in about 18 seconds. ample time.

f you want simulation, that's simulation, because that adjusts the time difference between going from 15 minute quarters in reality, to 5 or 6 or 8 minutes quarters in madden. think of it as a slider. you slide the quarter length, you should slide the play clock length.
they are tied to each other because it directly affects the number of plays a team can get off in the allotted time.
it would also mean more plays per team, which is always a plus, because you're getting more out of every game. biggest plus is that it eliminates extremely cheesy clock milkers (as the original poster describes). you can still milk clock, but it only milks the clock proportionally equivalent to a real game. that's simulation.
