Re: Madden 10: Did EA press reset? (Joystiq)

At best, Joystiq took a shallow approach in previewing Madden. (I've seen better negative reviews).

But that's not to take anything from Joystiq. If you go to their site, and look at their posting history, you will notice that they've written 60 blog articles in the past 24 hours (during E3 it will probably reach 200). Their information is supposed to be brief and reactionary. This is useful for people who want information quickly and don't necessarily have the interest to dig deeper. They're not IGN, Gamespot, etc. so they don't have the same journalistic obligations.

So in essence, this article is what it is. The crime was expecting it to be anymore than an OP-ed.

Re: Madden 10: Did EA press reset? (Joystiq)

I don't mind the article. They are speaking on their opinion. I mean, sure, they stated false info in the first article, but who hasn't?

However, I don't like the fact that even though they took the time to correct the info, they still took time to dog EA, like they did on the first article.

And Madden Team Play Online actually sounds like a good idea. Imagine a Be A Pro online mode where there are 11 users on one side of the ball of one team, each one controlling a single player. Those users are playing the other 11 users on the other team, and it would emphasize teamwork. It would be like the Call of Duty 4 online for football...

Personally, I found the preview to be refreshing in that it seemed to be written from a pretty realistic perspective of what a casual person probably thinks about the Madden franchise. The last 3-4 years haven't brought any innovation to Madden, and if you played 07 and then played 09, you wouldn't really notice anything that different.

Most of you just seem angry that it isn't another jock riding preview piece on how great EA and Ian are. Ian has been great for the Madden community and his level of interaction with the community is unmatched, but he has yet to make a decent game of Madden. Only 8 people on here have played Madden 10, yet you all already appoint him the chosen one and this the best Madden ever.

I've been fooled by marketing, glowing previews, and reviews time and time again. I'm glad Joystiq took a different approach to previewing the game.
This is Ian Cumming's first time being lead designer for Madden NFL and Phil Frazier's first full year as senior producer for Madden NFL. Give these guys a chance. Last year Madden made a big leap from Madden 08 to Madden 09 and this year looks even more promising.

I posted on that article on Joystiq, this morning, way before it hit this site and to me, dude came off like a child with a bunch of bias. Not objective writing, at all but very hateful. I understand that the game is not even out yet but the clips and such that I have seen shows a BUNCH of improvements, thus far, and all we need is a final product to pull it all together.
I think that "writer" should gave a balance of positives and negatives. He stayed more on the negative side and was so blinded by his own bias that his initial report was inaccurate on what the new Madden was going to have in it. Terrible writing for a website like that.

Interesting article. It seems that some of you got your feelings hurt by a non brown nosing article. It is refreshing to see someone in the industry actually criticize a game instead of calling it the best ever like others have the last 4 years (when in reality it has sucked).

It seems the Madden team also got their feelings hurt.

Oh well, solid article if you ask me.

The fact that they made it a huge point to express "disappointment" for not having a team-play "Madden Online" mode is laughable. Yeah, THAT'S what's been holding Madden back from greatness all these years ... a mode that's going to take hell and high water to get everyone situated in one place at the same time to play out fully.

This is but one reason why I don't take the mags seriously. Ever since they all praised Madden 08--one of the crappiest football games ever made--I was done.

You can't tell me that Madden 09 played like Madden 08. You can't.
