If anything speed will be MORE of a factor, because of the rating scale now. Chris Johnson should be able to just blaze through defenses

Re: I really hope speed isn't a big factor in madden 10

I actually think it will be less of a factor. Yes, chris has 99 speed and other players who would have been in the 95 area might only be 92 or so. Guys who were around a 90 are now probably 85. Guys who were around 85 are now probably 78 or so. That makes it look like it will be more of a factor.

However, as discussed here:

http://insideblog.easports.com/archi...en-nfl-10.aspx

what the speed ratings means has changed as well.

Chris still moves at the same 4.21 speed but now that guy who was a 95 and is now a 92 has went from moving at a 4.4 speed to moving at about a 4.4 speed. No real change.

That guy who was around a 90 and moved at a 4.6 speed is now an 85 but is actually moving at a 4.59 speed.

That 85 who moved at around a 5.0 may only be a 78 but now moves at around a 4.71 or 4.72 speed.

While these ratings are more spread out and show the differences a little to show finer differences they actually the same range using more numbers. What used to be covered by about a 67-99 range is now covered by a 45-99 range.

Previously the lower speed guys would move unrealistically slow causing a lot of difference between closely rated players. Now the spread used in the game only covers realistic ranges. That combined with them trying to work strength and some skill ratings into the equation a little more will cause speed to be less vital than in previous years.

that should be ea's motto because online play sucks when all people do is throw deep and bounce runs outside and nobody can lay a finger on guys like chris johnson, felix jones, desean jackson and even t.o. for some reason with his 97 speed.

Speed kills. SO does dropping the ball.
