Question In the NFL, are substitutions mainly situational or are they caused by fatigue?

And how is this represented in M10?

How many dives up the middle can a real RB really handle? I know that one 20+ yard run means a quick breather to the sideline, at least for a play.

As I've mentioned before, I really love relying on my depth. Makes the whole roster important.

How do defensive players substitute? I know DL's have some sort of rotation, but I'm not 100% sure on how it works. How about the DB's? Do the CB1, CB2, FS and SS ever come out of the game?

Thanks OS

in real life subs are mainly situational and sometimes for fatigue and of course injury. you really dont need fatigue subs in the game of football since you get a break in between plays. in madden it is mainly for fatigue unless you change the sub percentage.

in would be cool if they automaticly did the situational subs for us.

maybe im misunderstanding here but, either ive been out of shape or you just never get tired. You do not get a break in between plays. The play clock is not a break. If you have ever played football you know that when the play count of the drive is getting up, you cant wait to punch the ball into that endzone so you can go get some water on the sideline. i played rb and i would get cottonmouth so bad with my mouthguard in, it was insane. couldnt even breath sometimes it seemed like.

so, it DOES go BOTH ways. Yes, bring in your 3rd down back on 3rd down and your pass rushers or run stuffers.. But there isnt much substitutions other than that. There is a thing called bringing in a New Package, aka a different formation that would consist of different amount of guys at certain positions on the field.

Cool. In Madden 09, were the injury and fatigue sliders working correctly? I will jack them up to near maximum for ultimate fun

If they were not working, is there any word if they were tweaked for Madden 10?

in the NFL the only players that get a break for fatigue on offense is the running back for the most part. and on defense the defensive linemen sometimes get breaks for fatigue, for the most part they bring in packages for certain situation.

i know i always thought football conditioning as far as just pure running was easier the basketball to me when i played, cause in basketball we never stopped running.

The answer is clearly both.

Certain positions definitely get subbed more for fatigue then others. I would say the DL get subbed most for fatigue. It is pretty often I see those guys on the sideline puffing oxygen.

yeah bro basketball kills you, competitive pick up games even. I never played basketball cuz football was enough for me. playing RB you are either blocking or carrying the ball. Carrying the ball 3 times in a row, making cuts, lowering your shoulder, all at full speed does me in. haha

but yeah its mostly ball carriers and dlineman that are going in and out the most cuz of fatigue.
