And someone said Joey Porter should be in the 70s earlier?!? That person must not watch actual football... And in real life you could probably trade Porter for a 2nd round pick, look what happened with Jay Tay last year (Dan Snyder ). But I could see you being able to trade Porter for a 1st in madden unless they made age as big of a factor as it is in real life
theres a few people on here i swear dont really watch the game lol. In previous versions i would trade for a stud MLB build thru FA n draft. I would try and keep at least 1 pick in the first 3 roundsa nd TRY to find good players later on. This yr im going to completely change my approach and purposely try to find some gems especially in later rounds.

Well the guy that made Head Coach worked on franchise mode this year and on HC when I trade 90+ over all 30 something year old player I get 3rd, 4th or 5th rounder offers for them. As I did in HC I will build through the draft, trade down or away 70% of time to stock pile picks, trade away old players even if its for low draft picks and pick up 1 or 2 elite players on FA. So far I have gotten teams beyond STACKED with that formula and since I pick really low on the draft my cap is always low, why change it?

I build through FA. I draft 1-3 and sim the rest. I dont recall the last time i ever even signed any of my late picks after RD3. I usually trade away as many picks as i can leaving me with the minimum on draft day. I like players who contribute right away and draft picks seldom do that. But, i seldom go further in franchise than year 4.

This has been my gameplan mainly due to the complete lack of anyone worth a damn after the 3rd rd.

M10 however, will have a much different plan. Seems as though the draft classes will be much better.

I typically keep my picks and only use them to trade up or down. Down most of the time seeing as it costs an arm and a leg to sign a good draft pick.

I still play my dynasty in Madden 08 for ps2, and that game is great and I really like the draft, except for the scouting. You can only scout like 8 players, and you have to do minigames which can be really hard (esp for linemen) so I never would know anything about the players beside their combine numbers (example: I sucked so bad at the O-line minigame so I never had any idea of if the guy was even a run blocker or pass blocker, and would usually wind up with horrible linemen who weren't even the right type of player).

So I decided to cheat haha and it made the draft so much more fun for me. I sim the draft, then go back and do it for real after I see about where players are taken and their ratings. The first couple rounds don't change too much, but this makes the later rounds a lot more fun. You could get some decent TEs (good blockers or guys with decent hands, no real athletes) some decent O and D linemen, and 3rd down backs and stuff in the 4th through 7th rounds.

This doesn't guarantee success at all, because they don't always perform or progress or have good potential. I justified it with myself by saying that real scouts can see how fast a guy is and how good of a blocker, etc, but I'm definitely cheating because I see their exact ratings, but I prefered this way instead of going in blind.

Anyway, I'm not sure how the players have been next gen, but on the ps2 I would always make it a habit to sign all the players I drafted for at least a year.

Hahaha dude... I cheat in that same way. I can justify myself though because the scouting in madden is just so awful. I plan on going straight for M10 though because I have faith that the scouting will be solid.

I sign every player I draft which is usually 10 lol. and I don't think Ive ever signed them for less than 3 years. I'm too woried they will get good and I'll have to pay them more when their contract runs out

Haha awesome, I knew I couldn't be the only one who did that. I just about always drafted 10 players too, but I would sign the 5th-7th rounders to 1 year deals and maybe a 2 year. Since I didn't have many stars on my team, I didn't have to worry too much about the salary cap, so I was willing to pay if they earned a raise.

I'm a very cheap owner lol. I'll have 50Mil in Cap and still give guys the cheapest deal possible... If there were holdouts in Madden I'd be in trouble.
