The number one reason why I'll be buying Madden '10
You know what I've hated about Next Gen Madden? Offline was unplayable. For whatever reason, the computer always seemed to gain superhuman speed when they needed it, or just always be able to get off a pass, to the only open guy, while on his back foot and 3 defenders in his face. It was impossible to sack the CPU QB.
I've hated how the computer knew what play I was going to run, before I ran it. When I would audible, even though there would be no sign of an audible at the line of scrimmage, the CPU would ALWAYS audible to the perfect play, always. Anytime I won or lost, I felt like I had been cheated, or cheated the computer. Needless to say, this rendered Franchise mode unplayable for me, which sucks because I loved franchise in the PS2 days. Online's awesome if you find good people to play with, which I usually am able to do, but that doesn't always happen.
Enter the Madden '10 demo. I've played maybe 20 games or so, and each time I've had a touchdown scored on me, or I drove down the field, or I was intercepted, or I got stuffed in the backfield, I felt like it was earned. If I got scored on, it was a bad play call by me. Guys don't get open for no reason, they're open because there's a mismatch. Man coverage is as good as it has ever been in any Madden game, and as a Bronco fan that is good, because Champ will be a huge weapon in this game.
Franchise for me will be rejuvenated in Madden 10, that is why I am buying it. That and online Franchise, and the new pace of the game, I really like it and it's going to add a whole new dimension to my Madden gaming.
I've seen alot of videos online by guys like apex about just ridiculous things happening in the game for them, and I can't say I've noticed any happening for me, maybe I've just been lucky? There was one time where Fitz warped through a defender to make a catch, but that's all I can recall.
Anyone else feel like this? Where offline was unplayable before, but now they feel as though it is done justice? I'm hoping the same will happen with NHL '10, because for me the offline in 08 and 09 was awful, absolutely unplayable, all the computer did was glitch goals, and they forced you to use cheese as well. I prefer online in NHL anyway (even though it's got the worst online community as far as cheesers go, but I'll be here all day if I type out all my thoughts on that), like most games, but still it sucked that I couldn't take my team and win the cup with them. I played maybe 6 offline games, and never played offline again, it was absolute garbage.
I'll still play online more, because the human element of football is irreplicable in video games. Forcing someone to make a bad decision, or outscheming them. That's not really something you can do with a computer, people have tendencies and gameplans, I know they're working towards that in Madden, and MLB 09 The Show really does it perfectly, but Madden isn't there yet. That being said though, I'm definitely looking forward to Franchise, because I feel like it'll be playable again.
