Features That Would Push Madden Into The Future (MaddenIQ)

MaddenIQ has posted an article entitled, Features That Would Push Madden Into The Future.

Quote:
"Since the advent of “next-gen” Madden in late 2005, the new version of the game has been met with nearly universal disappointment. Whether its due to EA eliminating its competition, sheer laziness by the dev team, or all of the above…it doesn’t take an expert to look at Madden 06-09 on ps3/360 and say…..where has the innovation gone?

On the flip side though, PS2 Madden is often remembered with rose colored glasses. Even though its pre-snap features and options are superior to the newer versions, it was still easily exploitable because of a number of limitations. One being technical limits with the hardware at the time, and the other being that even in the so called “glory days” the A.I. in the game was largely shut off from the user. It was created at a “medium” that the dev team felt was appropriate for the game.

People spout on boards all the time that “Madden will always have dominant tactics that throw the balance of the game off”. They say that “it will be this way forever”. They will continue to be right until EA realizes that the key to making the best A.I. possible is by letting the user have full access to it. Make it customizable in every way. Here are some features tied to that, and also a few others that I feel would push video game football into the “football simulation” realm."
Platform: Xbox 360 / PS3 / Wii

Interesting take.

I didn't have a high enough Madden IQ to decifer some of the stuff he wrote about, but I definitely agree with his general emphasis on customization. When you allow the community the ability to customize gameplay tools (2k share, EA lockers, modern game sliders, attributes, animations, etc...) the game (whatever it may be) gains longevity.

While allowing this level of control would undoubtably make Madden even more complicated for noobs, it would satisfy the hardcore and add another layer of depth to the gameplay that probably wouldn't take to much time to develop and implement.

I don't think Madden the game will ever be as good as Madden the hype, but hopefully they'll get close in the next couple years.
