Just got an e-mail from Gamestop corporate HQ. I sent them an e-mail this past Monday asking if there are any plans on opening stores at midnight. They finally replied back today and told me that it is up to each store manager and district manager if they want to open at midnight or not.

They recommend calling your local stores. They did confirm that stores are scheduling a midnight release and are hoping to have a full list by Wednesday posted on there site. I called my local Gamestop and they are opening up at midnight...

Apparently my area Gamestop's manager was able to talk the DM into it...They're now advertising it on the store's front door!

man I hope today goes by fast, thursday is gonna kick ***.
I go see chickenfoot play at 5th Third and then I get home drive to gamestop and wait to play my most anticipated game of 09 , follow that up with a 3 hour session and go to bed

Mine used to do it all the time (went there three years in a row), but they stopped last year. I drove there around midnight and lo and behold, no one is there and all the lights are off. I'm guessing they had problems and decided not to do it anymore. Now they just open an hour or two earlier on the day of release only for people who want to pick up Madden.

Yeah, I was actually surprised to see that the GameStop location that I use (which happens to be in a mall) is having one this year. Last year they had one and I think that a total of 20ppl showed up. For other big releases that year they decided not to open at midnight citing that it costs the store $1500 minimum (for security and some type of charge that the mall includes as part of their lease contract to open at any time other than normal mall hours) to have a midnight release and that the District Manager has decided that only standalone/strip mall stores would be doing midnight launches in the future.

Madden 10 must have pulled in some serious pre-orders. I'm pumped!

The Gamestop out here is doing one. Last year there was upwards of 50-75 people.
