Free Agency is not 100% guaranteed

I'm playing as the 49ers in my franchise and Chris McAlister would not sign with me. I basically threw the book at him. I offered him a 2-year deal worth 13 million per season and he didn't sign. I then tried offering him a 1-year deal for 15 million and he still would not sign. I had to settle for signing Ty Law instead. It looks like no matter how much you offer a certain player, he will not automatically sign with your team unlike in year's past. I'm sure this will frustrate some players, but I prefer it this way because it adds more to the realism.

This is good news. It gets kinda old when you can sign any and every FA you want. And like you said it adds to the realism.

Maybe he wanted a long term contract with some job security.

Yeah I signed him to my franchise, because I REALLY needed help at the position. After my initial low-ball offer. It took me forever before he budged and signed, I really had to play with the numbers and years 50 times over.

This sounds awesome. Though using the Steelers i normally play it real and just re-sign my own guys and try to draft for my needs and not go FA crazy.

I don't know why he didn't sign with me. But during the third week of preseason, Chris McAlister signed a 1-year deal worth 7.8 million with the Detroit Lions.

I noticed this to with the Lions. I tried to sign some guys after I simmed the first year and they actually have other interests then money. It was pretty realistic seeing nobody really wants to play for the Lions.
