Hiring coach problem

Lovie Smith was available for hire so i hired him as my DC and he accepted the offer. But when i advanced to the next part of the offseason i saw in the headlines "Cardinals fire DC L. Smith" And below it "Bears hire HC L. Smith" So now i have no idea who my defensive coordinator is.. if he's gonna be hired back as the headcoach he should NOT accept my offer to be DC. This needs to be fixed.
I personally do not like the next gen version of hiring coaches, i liked last gen when you could see current offers and every rating for them.

I thought I read somewhere that you can't hire former head coaches to be assistant coaches, maybe that has something to do with it.

I heard that somewhere as well.
