Downing a punt

Is there a button on ps3 to make a defender keep the ball from landing into the endzone on a punt.

Good question - I basically stopped taking control of the closest defender, because more often than not I would run around in a circle while the ball bounced into the endzone.

The CPU controlled players don't seem to have a problem with downing the ball - maybe use defensive assist (hold x) when you get close to the ball?

Don't believe so, but what I have always done in the past is get my guy down there asap and then switch off control of him in hopes that an animation to catch the ball will ensue.

Wish there was an animation to actually go into the air in the endzone and swat the ball back out to the field of play. That would be sweet.

I wish!! Even though I'm fairly decent at downing punts, I still hate the fact I can't do that. I've actually gotten to the ball on time, timed the bounce perfectly, dove and all it did was hit my user-controlled player and bounce into the endzone. Also if you try to make a catch on the punt, 9/10 you will either catch it or at least knock it down.

Yes there is, on the 360 just hold down Y when running under the ball and he will catch it.

I hit "Y" and my player will catch the ball and down it...

He was referring to an animation where, in real life the defender will dive or stretch to knock the ball back into play to keep the ball from being a touchback
