I disagree. This is the issue. Since you already have the advantage of the "god view" you already know when the ball is released, where it is aimed and where your receiver is in relation to the defender. All of this is possible despite the receiver looking the other way. How is any AI supposed to counter that?

Let the user determine the timing and type of jump. Don't let the user break off the route. I agree, there is a lot of physics issues involved there, but the foundation of the problem is that you are putting eyes in the back of the receivers head. Fix that first.

I understand where you are coming from, but you are missing one thing that does happen in real life that would mimic what you are talking about. The WR and the QB being in sync.

This is done all the time. Many QBs and WRs have adjustments based on reads. If a WR is on a Go, but the DB is playing over the top, the route could change to where the QB throws it short intentionally. If the DB is playing over the top and has inside position, this might be a time for a back shoulder fade. Does the WR have to look at the QB to know that this is coming? No. They work on it in practice to the point that they read the play the same way.

Taking control of the receiver is not the problem. In real life, routes don't work to perfection all the time. Receivers get covered and the QB throws the pass anyway. He just throws it in a spot that is away from the defender but will allow the WR to adjust to go get it.

I don't see why a receiver in the game should have to stick to the route no matter where the pass is thrown. That isn't realistic. A receiver will make an adjustment on the ball as long as it is physically possible for him, given the situation and his athletic ability, to do so. Again, if the game is developed to take momentum, deceleration, weight, balance, foot planting, and regathering into consideration, and in a realistic fashion, then this would fix the issue.

User control is not the problem. With realistic locomotion, a receiver will not be able to get to any balls that he would not be able to in real life, whether the user or the AI is in control. That is the answer.

Well said. The answer to gameplay issues is always physics.

Good intention, but it has affected the game negatively in other areas. This being a good example.
I can still RC just about every play and so can other players...Their attempt to take it out of the game has failed. I can also catch fades easily in the endzone...It just takes practice.

What's ******** is that there are plays like "Goaline Fade" and you can't even run them correctly because madden fails.

I never said that they did or did not succeed in taking the RC out of the game. I am just saying that that is what they attempted to do when they decided to limit a receivers ability to go after the ball.

GOALINE FADE ROUTE -- Not Impossible

Call a quick slant to the outside. If your receiver is on the right, hot route a quick slant to the right and he will sprint for the corner of the endzone. Wait for him to break and loft it to his outside shoulder. Depending on your receiver he'll catch it over the shoulder or jump up and spin around to catch it.

It doesn't work 100 percent of the time but I have made it work on the goal line. Just make sure that there's no safety help, which there usually isn't on goal line situations and you should be good to go.
