Coach Mode

I like playing just "coach mode"...call the plays but let the comp run everything out.

Does anyone else do this? And if so, how's it play on '10. Have been waiting to start a franchise for patch/rosters etc...debating whether to wait til patch 2 or just get it start after this first patch comes out...

Advice?

BTW - In Madden 10 you still control kicking, even in coaching mode.

Don't ask why - I can't figure it out either.

Yes...and you can still control the players on D. I get caught suddenlly controlling a defense all the time while making a last second adjustment.

Not sure why they messed with the way it used to be.

Re: Coach Mode

Because it's EA and they always take 1 step forward and 2 steps back. I'd be very intrested in joing a Coach only league. Use to play in one back in the days when the PC version still had online franchises.

Re: Coach Mode

I've been a coach mode player since NCAA '05 on Xbox. The only time I changed was when I bought a current gen system and I didn't have that option. In those times, I switched to a player lock where I only controlled the QB and let Madden/Corso call all of my plays...which was loads of fun in and of itself.

Re: Coach Mode in Madden10
I absolutely love it. I have Madden as my defensive coordinator and I'm the HC/OC because I like to run a "spread" offense. For me, I prefer the coach mode of Madden10 to that of NFL Head Coach. I just want to call the plays and see the action unfold on the field. All of the other stuff is not for me.

I use MySkill sliders with the cpu skill at the default 50 and have had tremendous games as of late. I'm waiting on the broadcast cam to start a franchise.

If you want stats, here are the last 5 games I did on MySkill coach mode:

______________________________________________

Went back and gave MySkill another shot for my coach mode pleasure. I just finished a pretty awesome game. It was DET (coach) @ SF and we won it with Stafford hitting Heller on the 10 yd TD pass with 0:00 on the clock.

DET 27
SF 24

DET - SF
Total Off: 377 - 350
Rush Yds: 065 - 104
Pass Yds: 312 - 246
1st Dwns: 015 - 012
Trnovers: 2(0) - 2(0)

Lions
Pass-M.Stafford: 21/35, 314 Yds, 2 TD, 2 Int
Rush-K.Smith: 16-49
Ctch-C.Johnson Jr: 5-104, TD

49ers
Pass-S.Hill: 11/19, 159 Yds, TD, 2 Int
Rush-F.Gore: 19-93, TD
Ctch-F.Gore: 4-56, TD

It was a REALLY nice game....

Just had another good game using MySkill. The only thing about it is that there are times in the game when you just KNOW that what you're seeing is a result of your sliders constantly moving...like in this one when Stan Hill had consecutive drives end on the 1st play with interceptions by T.McGee. The overall result of the game is VERY pleasing save for the cpu-controlled human HB being a complete waste of virtual flesh lots of times....

49ers (coach) @ Bills

SF 16
BUF 31

Ctch- Josh Morgan: 5-74, TD - Isaac Bruce: 5-63

Bills
Pass- Trent Edwards: 20/29, 213 Yds, TD
Rush- Fred Jackson: 15-89, 3 TD
Ctch- Josh Reed: 6-72, TD

Rush- K.Smith: 21-56; M.Morris: 3-36, TD
Ctch- C.Johnson Jr.: 5-58

Another good game. I will say one thing about MySkill...it definitely creates opportunites for upsets.

One more game. I was the Lions playing host to the Cardinals. I like to spread the field so I ran mulitple WR sets and twins sets to force the D to show their hand.

Cardinals @ Lions (coach)

And this will likely be my last game posting. Strangely, I've enjoyed each game and they have been pretty realistic. I was ripped a new one by Washington's ground game in this one but it's cool. You would think that, being a coach moder, I wouldn't like myskill because it makes the game more challenging and I let the cpu control my players but it's been fun.

Nice. This is basically all I play when it comes to Madden.

What do you do about the kicking game? Just control it yourself?

Re: Coach Mode

Yeah, unfortunately we have to control the kicking. If it gets too easy for you you can try to always keep the directional arrow straight and try to use the right stick to control the direction of kicks. That's pretty challenging.

Yes, I figured something like that. Does changing the controller so that you don't control either team work? Might get tedious...

What about all the bugs people complain about? Have you noticed any of those really becoming problematic in coach mode?
