I usually hot rot on streaks to send someone over the middle because I never complete long passes. Half the time when I throw them the ball goes short into the middle of the field for a pick.

Re: Is hot routing in your offline franchise like cheating?

Here is my take on the "hot route".. I use it when I am playing against someone online... almost 30 to 40% of the time. But I never use it against the CPU, and here is why.

For starters, Coaching is non-exsistent when playing against the CPU. My point is this...When you watch a live game in "real life" with Peyton Manning, he may come to the line and audible a hot route which may be "kill" "kill" or whatever. Then when he does that. 90% of the time the Defense will call out an audible as well, and switch the look of they're formation. It is a chess match between the Defense and Manning. That is why it takes Manning like an hour and a half to snap the ball every play. Sometimes the defense will come to the line disguised, to get Manning to call a hot route into a zone that they were anticipating, or hoping that he would. once he does, then they adjust. Hope that makes sense.
When you play against the CPU there is no chess match, because when you audible a hot route the CPU does not adjust at all. They stay there like statues and will run what was programmed for that situation. Hence there is no such thing as coaching stratedgy from CPU. However when you play online against a live person that is capable of making adjustments and using strategic reasoning, then it can be fun to "out think" your opponent.

Just my two cents.

honestly how many hot routes could you actually call if you're using the accelerated clock? You have about 10 seconds going to the line and I think whatever adjustments you can make in that time frame have at it. If you're not using an acclerated clock and have like 25 seconds to read the D and make adjustments then that might be cheese....but this is exactly what I did in all the prior Madden's against the CPU, lol...

on the occassions where you run a hurry up, yes, you have more time to make the hot route adjustments (even with accelerated clock) but the trade off here it the fatigue factor....so just like a real game you can hold back on subs and have time to make adjustments or make subs and have very little time to make hot route adjustments...so all in all I don't think any of this is cheese or cheating in Madden 10 IF you use acclerated clock. The first game I played in M10 I HATED because of this but quickly realized it's unrealistic to call a play in 10 seconds, make your subs, and consistently have 25 seconds to call hot routes at the line (which, again, is what I ALWAYS did against both CPU and live opponents). I've grown to appreciate the realism and tradeoffs...
