Problem is that when the deal is up EA will surely throw as much money as they can to keep 2K out of the NFL.

Re: Theoretical Threat for Madden???

Football Mogul has real NFL players in it, I wonder how that got by.

Granted, there's no graphics in the game (except for play art) but it seemed to be a decent game.

Won't compete with Madden, though, as it's in the text-based sim genre. It would be like expected OOTP to compete with The Show

all we can hope for is that the government will decide to waste their time and our money on the issue. they will make EA show up and and question Ian and then there will be a group put together to come out with a report on how EA has been screwing us the whole time! lol

Re: Theoretical Threat for Madden???

If they left it open ended for user created teams, logos, and what have you...even if they blocked, or kept NFL logos out of it...but it looked AND played better than what we got now...I would surely buy it.

NFL or not...think the NFL or EA would throw a fit over using NFL rules tho? I mean after all we saw what Arena Football translated into on a video game lol. I just mean ya know 16 games, playoffs, rules, field dimensions...

We have an open source game, it's called NFL 2k5, and it's awesome. All hail Flying Finn!

Meh, I tried playing it last year and couldn't get through 10 minutes of actual game play. The highlight show is still pretty cool though.

Is there anyone who can offer a little more insight into whether this type of thing is even possible. Or is the threat of losing a lawsuit outweight the thought of moving forward with something like this...

Re: Theoretical Threat for Madden???

Open source = thousands of people working on one project to make it better...

EA working on madden = 30-40 people trying to make the game better...

I would hope 1k people with no release date could do better than 30-40 people.

Alot of open source projects lack one huge glaring hole and that is technical support... (though Microsoft and Sony dont have the best in the work it does exist). I worked on a scripting platform called apache Velocity and it had and it had little to no support for it.

Sigh,... why do I even bother?
