Are Pump Fakes worthless against Ds?

Its only really useful against man. Sometimes in zones you'll get a player to bite if they low ratings in zone (Deangelo Hall) but for the most part its only useful for man. On zones players may cheat up on a route to go for a pick and your receiver will then get behind the zone and in man if you pump before a cut the defender will do the same but he wont have time to get back in position and if its one on one its almost an easy TD. Trust me I'm a pro.

As of late I've just been dropping back and I keep clicking the pump button as if its second nature and just throwing when theres a hole. Im currently 65-15 (Got glitched in 5 of them) so I'm doing something right. I suggest running a shake route with a receiver who has good route running and speed and just pump on both of the cuts. Every time the receiver gets open against zone and will beat any man coverage even without pumping.

You just have to time it right. It does work. In that vid though, the DB makes an awkward animation. lol. But I've had times where it's looked pretty smooth and my QB didn't overthrow his receiver like his QB did in that vid. haha.

I have yet to see a DB get duped by pump fake in Madden '10. In NCAA you can see them bite..in Madden, AI controlled DBs all have Ed Reed instincts.

I have tried to use the pump fake in various ways and I've only found one type of play where it is effective.

Standing in the pocket you cannot control the direction of your pump fake, e.g. who you want to fake to, so I'd say it's only effective around 10% of the time.

However, when you scramble I've had great success with it - not to fake DBs, but to fake pass rushers. When you scramble with the sprint button and use pump fake you often buy some extra time by a) making pass rushing defenders jump with their hands in the air or b) make pursuing defenders change direction, if they are closing in on you.

It doesn't work all the time, but often you are able to make a good play out of nothing, if you scramble and use the pump fake.

Although, that had to be one of the worst animations/interactions just everything about that play was bad.

I dont even know why the DB bit on the fake since the receiver wasnt even looking for the ball and I should have known EA would put in the most over the top animation for something so little.
