defending the wr screen?

seems the wr screen is much harder to stop this year without being able to defend the flats, I've tried cover 2, but the cb's are no match.

Re: defending the wr screen?

It may not be the best way but I tend to be the DE and I look for it. Its easy to stop that way. Only problem is sometimes it obviously takes away from the pass rush.. just mix it up.

Re: defending the wr screen?

I thought last year's screen was much more broken, if you shifted your o-line to that side you could break a huge run. I usually use cover 2 with the flats you can't rely on only the CB to make the tackle you have to bring a safety or LB over. Usually when I play I used a LB or Safety and bring them right up and I haven't had one on me for a long gain.

Or like above, use a DE and bring him over and maybe you get a pick. Hope this helps.

You might also try playing man coverage schemes and pressing the receivers to keep the defender close to the receiver.

Re: defending the wr screen?

I just run a standard two deep man press and my CB usually blows it up. There's that and man DE contain.

Its not about formations really it's just about having a quick wit when it comes to screens. I play against a couple fellas who abused the screen last year so I know every formation a screen comes out of and I play with my ends anyway so when I think its a screen I just bring me lineman to that side automatically and blow it up.
