Tips for Defense!!

DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!

I love playing D like I love rushing. I used to play SS and I used to get a big rush giving out a good hit on the poor bloke who just caught the ball and a runner who's just beaten my LB's and CB!!!
So my passion for D goes into my Madden D!!!
You can give me any D playbook and I'll disect it.

My Tips.

1. Practice and learn your playbook!!!

2. Strategize. I'll give you a strategie further down the page.

3. Adjust to the O line.

4. Stick with 1 or 2 player's and dont rely on just the hitstick!!!

5. Learn how to create pressure, there are many different ways try switching the pressure and creating it from other area's and positions, dont just rely on your DT's and DE's, use your LB's, CB's and Safety's, to create pressure, and put ur DT's or DE's into coverage, trust me DE's can make some mad interceptions!!

6. Dont Blitz all the time. You'll get beaten ALOT!!!

7. Look for mismatches.

8. Use the Replay, Look at where you are struggling and where you are getting beat. Also look at ratios of passing and rushing and who the go to guy for the other team is!!

My main Strategie on game day!!

I play 4-3 D, I have at times played 3-4 using the Jets and Steelers books but I prefer 4 D line men to create more pressure from the line rather than sacrificing my LB's to create pressure!!

I wont blitz Until late in the game or if the other team are 3rd and long and I know that they are gonna pass!!

1st Down
Cover 2
I will play many versions of Cover 2, as this will give me two men deep for the long pass and my LB's will be in zone to stop and cover the run.

2nd Down
Cover 2 or 3
It depends if they are 2nd and long or 2nd and short.
For 2nd and Long
Cover 3
Cover 3 will give you 3 deep men for the long pass and you can man up you LB's or use them to Blitz!!
For 2nd and short
Cover 2
The opposite team will either run or pass short, so Cover 2 will cover both those area's

3rd Down
Cover 1
This gives you man to man coverage and you can double team their main Wide Reciever and highlight who you think is their main threat!!

End
Ok thats my strategie, I find I get alot of pressure with out blitzing as I have the rest of the field covered and yes sometime's I do get beat with a crazy pass or a crazy run but, hey!!! you cant get it right all the time. This may not work for everyone. So try your own Strategie if it doesn't.

My Top Rated D Books.

In no particular order.

4-3 books

Titans
Buccs
Vikings
Panthers
Giants

3-4 Books

Steelers
Jets
Patriots
Ravens
Dallas

A list of a few players I would trade for.

Good players I will try trade for are...I mainly trade expensive cap players who are old!!

RE, Gaines Adams, 79 OVR with A potential
DT, Sedrick Ellis, 91 OVR with A potential
LB, Rey Maulaluga, Rookie 78 OVR with A potential

Re: Tips for Defense!!

I consider myself a defensive strategist and I've got a few questions. I see that you USED to play SS. What manually controlled defender do you stick to now? After the snap do you find yourself clicking on another player closer to the action or do you ride it out with your player no matter how out of position you are?

How do you find yourself playing with your eyes? Do you look at your manually controller defender or stay focused on the play? And do you have any tips for fighting off blocks?

I see that you've got a few defensive hot routes? I myself have found that this year I've got a harder time making pre-snap adjustments because the CPU seems to snap the ball so quickly.

Do you move your d-line any and if you do what's the thought process? I've always been a bit hesitant because if I guess wrong I don't seem to get much pass rush.

Oh and what level and quarter length do you play on if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Tips for Defense!!

I'm a blitz fanatic.

At game start I blitz nearly every play. I mix blitzes a lot. First some middle blitzes to discurage their run play, then a lot of outside blitzes, because people usually start abusing too high QBs speed to skrimage left-right. But I really depend on fast DEs so that narrows my team selection a lot. (I LOVE that rooky DE beast on Bengals bench with 85 speed called Johnson).

Then when I got them scared of the blitz and they start throwing early I usually stop and drop back into some cover 2 or 3 and controll my linebackers.

Re: Tips for Defense!!

i play zone blitz and i use the multiple d playbook and i get lots of zone blitz that i mix up.

you wont get burned with the zone blitz and you get pressure as well as pass protection, this works for me very well for me.

Ok I'll try answer this as best I can.

I will start with a DE or SS and I'll watch the snap and change player accordingly, most of the time it comes off and I can make a tackle or cover the pass!!
Sometime's madden totally blows me out of the play and changes me to a player that I do not want to change to.
If I see its gonna be a pass I'll press with my DE, If it's a run I'll try switch to a player that can make a play!!!

I can stay focused on the play and my player!!!

Beating blocks. If your struggling for pressure you can create miss matches then swap your DE's around. You can use the right stick to swim move or use power move.

I go power from snap, swim left or right, depends on where the play is going and using the right stick left or right to go through blocking traffic.

Making a tackle, if I am LB, CB or Safety, Speed can be your enemy sometimes and you can totally miss a tackle because you have over run the play.
So I will slow down either by releasing turbo or line up the tackle with Left trigger and use right stick or X to tackle!!!

I will line up my D line mainly on their week side, where their main TE lines up and shift my LB's there to , I'f I am blitzing I will create huge pressure as there is no one on that side unless th FB or RB stays to block.
I can also adjust to nano blitz with C2 and C3, and blitz the middle with 2 LB's but you will need some time to adjust so if your playing with accelerated clock you have to be quick, so I will end up blitzing with all 3 LB's and line them up in the gaps, this can be dangerous at times and if their main receiver or their slot receiver runs in that hole in the field you will give up some yards and will have to make a play with your safety's, a QB like MCnabb will pick you apart and drive up the field!

I will play Hardcore play style with 12 plus mins with accelerated clock depends on what slider settings I'm using. 52 injury 52 fatigue 50 threshold.
I will always look at using harder Sliders as my IQ will drop if my sliders are to easy. My IQ is 770 so I think that puts my level on 15 all madden!
