Hit SQUARE for more sacks!

I've had a hard time getting sacks while playing this game. Most of the time I'll get right up on the QB and use the hit stick to try and sack him but he always seems to somehow get rid of it. An incompletion is all good but I want a SACK! Force a fumble.. Injure the QB. Lead the league.

Now I am doing those things and its simply by diving at the quarterback.

Maybe a lot of you do this already and this might not help you but it has made this game more fun for me.

I use DE or DT and use the stick at the line but when I break free towards the quarterback I hit square to dive at the quarterback and have been getting a lot more sacks. If you dive too early then you screwed yourself out of the play. You dive at the feet of the QB and he will fall, or if you're closer, you will dive at his body for a hard hit (very satisfying). I found that diving at the QB will result in much less of those plays where you could swear you're about to get a sack but the QB manages to throw the ball away. Those situations are sacks now.

Here is an example:

QB is about to release the ball as I dive and take his legs out. SACK!
Probably wouldn't have got to him otherwise.

Again, as Palmer was about to release, I dive and get the big sack. Good solid hit on the QB.

Both of these situations would have probably resulted in an incomplete pass if not for diving.

Play the game how you want, but if you are having difficulty with getting sacks... this works.

Sounds like good advice. I will give it a try.

Seems like I always just miss sacks

Re: Hit SQUARE for more sacks!

I have been trying the X button on the 360, but it doesn't quite work correctly. It looks like if the passing animation has already triggered, then the dive gets converted into a fall down. Worse, there's a definite visible lag between when you hit the dive button, where the player doesn't move at all, before the fall down animation is triggered. Definitely needs some tuning on the XBox 360.

What makes this even crazier, is I have video footage recorded of a DE making a 6 yard Dive from touch point to touch point from a nigh standing position. heh

Re: Hit SQUARE for more sacks!

I have seen the fall down and the dive to make the sack. I have not noticed if the throwing animation started or not. I think its a crap shoot.

It happens when the throwing animation is just starting.

Throwing animation starts.

Defenders has a slow pause (no movement, looks weird)

Throwing animation continues.

Defenders just falls down, instead of diving at the QB.

Quarterback completes pass as if nothing happened. (which it didn't... because the game didn't let it happen)

This does happen on occasion, but I've seen plenty of times where the QB will start the passing animation, I'll hit square to dive and I'll end up taking out the QB's legs (which is roughing the passer nowadays isn't it?) and he'll pull the ball back in and take the sack instead of throwing a lame duck.

It seems kind of cheap, but it is the only way to consistently get sacks, and it finally makes it worth spending money on a quality pass rushing DE/OLB.
