You guys should play Quick Hit Football.

The AI is miles ahead of just about every other football game I've played, especially Madden.

all the technical logic aside, there is the basic AI logic that should be in any football game that seems missing such as:

running out of bounds a yd short of the first down
throwing a pass to the fb on 3rd & 10
throwing to the best WR

these are not that technical or hard i have come to the conclusion the makers dont know football, they care about things like ultimate team cards and afl modes the basic football smarts that the game must have they dont care about

What football logic is there in bad Presentation, morphing, and bad, odd looking annimatilns? I can accept the dumb AI, but the annimations are just plain silly. Players will freeze so a annimation can occur. Sometimes your player will slide across the field to start a annimation. None of this and 90% of the other major gripes have much to do with real"football knowledge". At this point, I've moved on to Basketball games. Live and 2k were both great!

Good post.
I have had similar thoughts for a long time.

I have given up on football games even if I can enjoy this years Madden on occasion.

I agree. By now...at least the most basic of AI logic, should be covered.

To still be dealing with some of the most basic of logic miscues we see today...is very disappointing. Myself...I don't really expect a $60 video football game to be carrying out complex blocking schemes flawlessly.

But the AI punting on your 30 yard line?...or continuing to throw the ball nearly every down, with a 30 point lead late in the 4th? We should be well beyond that point long ago imo.

Killroy - I agree with some of what you said, but when it comes to the "sliding" thing, I have to disagree wholeheartedly. If Madden 11 looks like the Lacrosse game, I will be sick. I know that you are talking about overall fluidity of players, not graphics-wise, but how the players move... I understand that. But if you watch an NFL game, players can cut pretty fast. Good receiver can make pretty fluid cuts. At first glance, that looks like a hockey game on green ice. You don't slide on grass or turf like that unless it's wet. I don't think sliding is going to help this game one bit.

Bottom line, it comes down to making a huge overhaul to Madden in order to provide us a good game for the price we pay. I agree with many who've posted that a physics-based engine with completely revamped A.I. methodology is need to put out a much better football game. Can they get it perfect.... no. But they have the resources, money and an intelligent staff that can do a hell of a lot better than what they've fed us in this-gen. I think the problem is that they've committed to this-gen's technology and make enough money not to be motivated to start with some new technology. It's hard to believe the devs don't know how bad Madden 10 is, yet when they do talk about it (which is rare nowadays), they talk like there are only a few slight tweaks needed. It would be borderline hilarious if it weren't so sad for us. This tells me they are committed to this technology until the next-gen of consoles. Sigh........
